hi my closest ceiling joist to the wall is 100mm is it ok to 'float ' the board (12.5mm) that far? If not what's the normal maximum for an unsupported edge?
Thanks
Discussed with my renderer about having a monocouche render on my house and having received samples from K-rend told him I liked the silicone FT range.
He said thats fine but its not a monocouche render?
Now i'm i little confused as i thought it was.
He recommended to Weberpral M range...
Great, thanks, was concerned as lots of folks recommend laying board horizontally for strength but miles quicker vertically with large boards.
Didn't think about getting them in but would be room, good point!
Hi All,
Boarding out 2.6m walls any issues with running 2700mm boards and cutting down rather than 2400mm boards?
Never used them before. Just trying to work out and potential problems.
Hi all,
I'm looking for a render job to a newly built extension with 100m2 area (excluding doors/Windows). (6x8x6m by 2 storey with 1 gable)
I was looking at a Krend type but may consider a tradition cement render. Also a small area of rough cast work around a new doorway on existing house...
currently celotexing an oak ridged hipped roof. Got to thinking how the hell am I going to plaster board this thing!?
I can run the boards up the rafters into the hip but when the rafter runs out it will be largely unsupported. I've run a few battens up where I can but is there a rule of thumb...
I've got some spare 4x2 lying around if I rip it in half would 2x2 work? (50mm x 50mm in new money!)
Just discovered it's not level across the join so going to have to pack out the studs anyway.
So in effect I'm building a false wall. Ok sounds a solid plan so I'll do it that way, thanks for help.
Not sure about the cavity for pipes as I'll block it with the horizontal 3x2 but can probably route them in somehow.
So how about vertical battens on the block then horizontal battens across both then board out?
Not to worried about losing room space just want it done the best way it can be.
It's also the placement space for the boiler if that matters in any way.
Hi all,
Working on quite a large project and have a timber frame joining a solid wall along the same line. Was going to batten the solid and then board across both but worried the frame may settle and obviously the wall won't so might crack?
Any ideas if this would happen and if so how to...
Hi All,
I;m looking for some advice please. I am building a timber frame extension to my home and looking at finishing options. My current house is cement rendered solid wall with (i think) 20mm pebble (painted).(photo attached).
Im looking at getting a more modern finish. Firstly the timber...
Thanks for the input chaps. I hadn't considered boarding but am looking into it. Or course this will make my extension a 'proper' timber frame build so need to consider the implications of that.
I have to render pebbledash/painted to match existing so a flatter finish is irrelevant.
It pretty...
Thanks something like this then:

Anyone know the rough cost difference between render board and block/render?
I think the blocks will cost me £1500 (inc mortar) plus labour ad then obviously render. Its about 120m2.
Hi All,
New to this forum but hoped you could give some advice.
I am building a 2 storey extension that requires rendering. I was going to use celcon standard blocks (3.6N) for external skin (internal is timber frame), but i see a lot of moaning form plasterers about this type of block!
Whats...
