Beleive it or not this was previously covered by lining paper and structural wood chip.
How would you go about leveling this off considering its different width/depth top to bottom?
It's sagged, crumbling and generally spanked. The room is clear and in need of rewire too.
Some say overboard some say rip it down. Mess isn't an issue.
What would you do if it was your house
Lush. What are we talking here the yellow sheet shite or the white power? Got my GP on speed dial and am ready to try and sue screwdix for false face mask claims.
All of the other rooms were proper done in so will be removed and boarded over. Annoyingly this ceiling appears to be in fairly good condition but is covered in crud left over.
Normally people say over board but would a skim sort this out?
Cheers
Cheers. Yeah worse than I was hopping but a lot better than expected. You to do a smaller wall, with better mixed and not out of date plaster...
Biggest thing is to get a platform and not use a stool to get the tops. I kept leaning and rushing which obviously results in a shyte job.
Going to...
Yeah might corner drill some plaster board into my garage just to give it a go to be honest. Sounds pretty sad but I'm excited to get better at something I'm crap at. Not quite a midlife crisis but the day job is getting a bit ehh. Not looking for a replacement by any means just want to learn...
No.
This was just a point of reference knowing the walls going to get f**k*d anyway.
You'll be more happy to hear that's actually just an extension with an exposed cable running along the skirting.
House is a state. Hence why I don't really care about getting it wrong on one wall. It's the...
Yeah 1000%
I mean with my first trowel in the corner I couldn't even figure out how to get it on the trowel, not the floor. That's where I'm coming from...
I absolutely made the mistake of over mixing and making it too thick. Too large a wall for first bash too.
My PVA was ok, probably the...
Yeah to be fair it was worth it for the experience. Surprised be at how much you can get away with but once it's done it's done.
Made the mistake of using out of date stuff for the first coat and pushing my luck. By time I got the the end of the top the speedskim thing was already dragging...
Oh also, don't neglect the edges because they will bite you.
Dont use a stool. If you're going to give it a go get a proper platform that you don't have to lean into because you will not get that level.
Learn form my mistakes!
Pretty much what the title says.
Just been quoted 7k to get my house done. Figured I can either balls up a wall, book myself onto a week course for a few hundred and save some cash or... Pay one of you to do it and learn the basics whilst at it.
Turns out I'm s**t, who knew? You did...
Pretty much says it all.
Making this post to bin off the notification.
Purchased my first house and as per 2021 prices all I could afford is a crack den. Had cladding on every surface and sins lurked beneath.
I've now got about 50p to my name so have decided to watch a ten min YouTube video...
Ah feck thought it was a wall but to be fair you could do it on a pinch. Not 30 mins mind but yeah. Just scored along the wall and took it off in large sections
I'm here for advice too because I'm doing exactly the same thing.
In my mind, it's a 30 Mon job to efficiently remove the lathe and plaster. Then you can put insulation in and have thicker more modern plaster job.
I was going to go over it but then I though... It's literally the price of...
