Im gonna be putting travertine finish on my landing wall and i have done some samples using knauf board finish mixed 3 parts finish to 1 part kiln dried sand. The colour is a light biege with a brown colour wash or colour wax then wax and polish im gonna put up some pics when its done but i wanna say that the samples are as good if not better than any italian plaster i have used, ok it dont burnish to a high shine but once waxed and polished its just the same. you can see the sand grain in the finish which adds to the effect. It sets harder than lime based plasters and quicker and best of all it cost a fiver for 25kg of powder rather than £100+ for 25kg of premixed lime.

best way to do it. Apply 1st coat let it dry. Apply Second coat when it tightens right up compress with trowel, finely scrape and if required ashlar out. Done this many times comes out pukka,just another way.
