BAck to Basics

I went round my mates house today to help finish up some plastering on a house he has been building :D

just all the shittty stuff like cupboards and reveals and all that nonsense :D

Well I decided to go back to basics and just skim using normal trowels... Mad I know... no flexible trowels no speedskims no plastic just normal basic trowels :D

I have to say it was a pleasure... Just skimming and going back to basics.. nice straight lines no sweating my nuts off...

I actually enjoyed it and I was doing it for free as well... work that one out!!

More of walk in wardrobe than a cuboard to be honest.

I was offered the whole house to plaster but could not be bothered for it.

I use to hate all the small stuff and just like the big areas

Does anyone actually think the plazi or speedskim etc leaves a better finish
Nah they are meant to take the strain away from the body... not really an enhancement on the finish

I like the speedskim when am 2 coating. But I don't 2 coat much any more. Just mt now 2 Mt and a s*p*r*lex for the last trowel to take a bit of pressure off the arm.

I went back to one trowel when I started having apprentices a few year back. f**k using 3-4 trowels again

Just use a Nela premium now same trowel for rendering and skimming I was going to eBay my other trowels the plazzi and flexi don’t get used and my Refina spat is knackered so I might replace that for the ceilings but really making an effort to cut all the bullshit.

Just use a mt xtralite, sometimes use mediflex for last flick. Sometimes finish misbehaves a bit, so need the steel trowel to finish it as need to give it a bit of a grind to bring it up right. Used my premium once for skimming, not just sharp as I'd like it yet, so keep just sand cementing with it a while yet.

The last plastering job I did I swore I would never do another job, I hated it... but today was good, nice working at my own slow pace and just concentrating on getting a good finish... (mainly to highligh how s**t the plastering is in the rest of the house) :D

Stopped using the nela s*p*r*lex some time ago. Went back to the Mt carbon steel. Always leaves a nice finish. Plus I weirdly enjoy oiling it and wrapping it in rags when I put it away

I have gone to the dark side and been using an OX trowel.... quite nice.... I dont seem to have any NELA trowels at the moment... leant a few out to a local plasterer(s) and they don't wanna give me them back...

I love my nela but just for a final flick. I'm utter shite at using the speed skim and not really arsed if it's there or not but Ni loves it .

Can't beat mt extralite

Very true that jess I agree each to there own I say as long as tools are clean most could get a finish with any trowel even a ragni
