3 million new houses.

I thought he was a proven idiot? Those people only say those things for dim people who may vote for them.

I've heard 50000 being built in Manchester.

No comment on the amounts, but there was a lot of crane activity there last time I was. The fashion in Mancs is for flats in and around the city centre. Nothern quarter, Salford Quays, Hulme, Deansgate Locks etc.

So lots more houses will mean a huge supply to the market which will mean a depression of prices....correct?

That's what the problem has been....that, and nimbyism. Thing is though, gonna have to take the hit because prices can't just keep going up.

Well UK along with others has signed up to UN agreement for migrants to have a right to immigration so perhaps that is why more houses?

I'm not really too clever on politics mate.
I couldn't pick a footy bet at the minute (y)(y)

Wasn't there talk of Australian rules ....only allowed in UK if can guarantee £30K wages

To be honest there is no reason they should go up. I bet if you filled all the empty ones that would make a good dent in the shortage except in high demand areas like London etc.

Increasing prices, booms & busts, increase borrowings...............suits banking, insurance etc before you lay a new brick. I remember when there was big demand for housing and no increase in house prices. That was because nobody or very few ever bought one. They mostly rented which was the norm. There was the same old probs then as there is now. But there was no or very little debt.

Im baffled how we haven't got a road system at the minute never mind another 3m. Houses.

House builders are supposed to sort out roads before building inner cities and towns but always cry theve run out of money.

Always been the same. Our estate was called a 'spillover' estate and just a couple of shops for hundreds and hundreds of houses. No bus service etc. Telford or Telford new town as it once was called was a 60's new town built in middle of countryside with sod all. They didnt even bother finishing motorway to it for 10 years or even longer.

So nowt changes.

More houses don't mean more people. Inner city housing is a fantastic idea..

There's every reason housing should go up. Especially social housing. There's twenty four and a half billion reasons right there.

Forcing people to live were they do not want to is another.

They do. Housing benefit is capped. Many people access the social housing system through homeless and emergency schemes. In those cases, you have to accept the first property that's offered.

Steve when the norm was to rent houses instead of buy them. People paid their rent. There was no or very little housing rent assistance as there was very little unemployment. Partly because there was very little benefits of staying on dole.

So you say by increasing houses for people to 'buy'. Then that will do away with housing benefit?
I'm saying that building social housing will save the country money, not cost it.

If I'm on housing benefit in Manchester, the govt will pay my landlord up to £120 a week for a flat which may or may not be well maintained and adequate for my needs.

If there's adequate social housing, then the govt will pay THEMSELVES £60 a week for a house which will be adequately maintained and will be adequate for my needs and which I can buy at a later date, should my circumstances improve. It's a no brainer.

Buying houses and the property booms was bought in to boost the financial sector and reduce the benefit system which had rocketed under the mismanagement of the economy in the late 1970's (Liebor). But it was the Tory's who started the large scale right to buy for the reasons above.

Used to be 0% mortgages so pay same as rent but own house. Then the % came in and nobody could get a mortgage so they tried right to buy. Now they’re doing first buyer s**t but wouldn’t be surprised if only applicable on new builds. Explains the shite quality.

Which glory days are these you speak of? I guarantee that this line is full of holes.

There's land for flats. Maybe not so much estates....Anyway, this is no excuse. If the government's immigration policy allows in x amount of migrants, then the governments housing policy has to keep tally. Fin land, make land, do whatever you want and if you can't adjust housing, then you'll have to adjust immigration instead, won't you.

We went through a phase in this country of building nothing but flats and town houses because the land issues brown belt or whatever it was called.
Flats were a dream 3 stories were a cuunt lol.

I left school when Milton Keynes was coming out of the ground ....same spec on million pound plots as little 2 bedders.
