dot and dab onto blockwork ( Porfix)

Hi all......i am looking at doing some dot & dab with drywall sheets onto internal walls (porfix - thermalite blocks type thing). I believe it is ok to dot and dab onto blocks of this type, but any information to the contrary is welcome. But what I am wanting to do is more than a 'dot and a dab', more like one big dob so to speak that is then spread evenly over the entire surface where the sheet is to be placed. I am aware that the individual dots and dabs provides 'play' to allow adjustment of any unevenness in the wall and the like. Im therefore thinking the complete spreading of the 'dob' would need to be a reasonable thickness to help in providing that 'play' also' The reason i am looking at this way of doing it is i would like there to be a more solid attachment to the wall rather having hollow sections between the dobs and dabs in the usual way. So...is this suggested method feasible?..or am i way way off the mark and need my head read. Any constructive feedback is welcome.

Surely stud work in front of the blocks with a sheet of ply then board would be an easier solution or just render the wall and leave off the boards completely?

your suggestion is most welcome and certainly an option. i dont want to render the walls because that it is a skill i do not possess and something i would not tackle myself....but i do want to explore the option i have suggested a bit further.

The wall doesn’t have to be boarded, it can be plastered with hardwall.

But make 10000% sure the plasterer has previous or it will look terrible

Im looking at doing the plastering myself, but i know i do not have the skills required to use hardwall unfortunately...hence the dob and dab enquiry...or the 'super dob' as i may put it !

As they say up here "Yer aff yer heid". Your effectively plastering the whole wall in adhesive to then stick boards on. Better to get it plastered as has been already suggested.

i dont want to have someone come in to wet plaster it...and i dont have the skill or talent of a plasterer to do it myself that way.....so am looking at the dot and dab method but extending the notion of it...so yes in a way i would be plastering the wall in adhesive and putting the drywall on....but it is feasible and doable isnt?..even though i know its not the way the skilled guys would do it

It's fine . We do it all time. . Bit pricey though . 3 bags a board
ok thanks for that feedback...because the labour is free (me)..the cost of the additional adhesive is not a problem either...so you are saying that it is quite ok to 'dob and dab' the whole surface so i then get a solid plaster wall without any hollows etc?

Yeah or get some browning if its still about cover wall . Tap a foiled back plasterboard to it then wait for board to drop of

If you can get some bags of browning. Cover wall in it . Tap a foil backed plasterboard to it to get it straigh then wait for plasterboard to fall off
so you saying to use browning plaster to stick the drywall sheets to the Porix/durox wall?....and what you mean by 'wait for plasterboard to fall off'?

Go on give it a bash!rattle it onto the wall with a tilers trowel then butter it up with the serrated edge!plonk your board on then level it as best you can, what’s the worst that can happen??go on go on go on!oh and upload pictures of this daring activity young man,:rebotando:

Just do what you said slap it all up then chuck board on it level it up boom done I wouldn’t recommend at @John j method but give it a try

well..ok.....seems like there a few people in this forum who are short on 'constructive' feedback...im yet to have someone come back with a definitive answer of why you can or cant do it the way i have suggested..never mind
I.ll tell ye what to do and I.ve seen a non plasterer do this and wall was spot on. Chalk line on floor put timbers a meter apart plumb floor to ceiling. Fill with backing plaster. Rule of using timbers . Remove timbers and fill gaps.....Just add skim

So the point of this this thread seems to be,tell me your knowledge and how to do it for free, money is no object for material but no way is a plasterer being paid.
yes..thats right...the first sensible response from a plaster all night..it is a forum, not a stock exchange for you to make money from

I think next time i do a wall that needs double boarding in places . I.m gonna do a big dot in place. Smooth it best i can . Then cover me face in cling film and leave a face print behind boards. Could even stick some rock wool on for hair
