Skim Over Joint Filler

Because you may have to cut the width to get it onto a joist or stud
Do you mean length?

But that could apply in both width and length. Then again how many rooms are less than 8' long? So you would need 1.5 boards or more. So you would require the ends of the boards to be rebated/recessed?

I told you to just skim it for fucks sake, taping is the best job you have done by accident and most of the numpties on here know it but can’t be arsed!

I did mean length Alzheimer’s, sorry
I know you are piss taking but for the width cut edges go to the wall and for the length a fair few ceilings or walls are over sixteen foot so there will be a cut in the middle of wall or ceiling, it’s only a guess of mine but maybe they taper edge the sides and not the ends just to piss people off, can’t have people being happy in their work

I know but in my defence the internal corners have had added insulation so the corners are boarded out and I was using parts of boards to do this. I had left over filler. The rest is history.

But any plasterer would have no excuse for it to be perfect now. Can't blame the block layer or say the painter will get it.

Hey I am not taking the piss. Only ever boarded out once before on house.

Plasterer did our house with scrim tape and skim all at same time. Then hairline cracks appear on joints after months etc.

I am chippy so know how wood moves. Went to Youtube and endless discussions on filler/jointing compound....skim.....tape v scrim with the idea of doing olde worlde plaster effect because you dont need much skill to do that..............but had enough and want it finished.................so plasterer will skim boards instead.

Thats my total knowledge and experience of plasterboard and skimming.

The fibre tape is not what it used to be but new wood doesn’t only move, when it dries out from being green it shrinks taking the board with it and cracking the joints with some of this fifty p for seven miles of fibre tape that you get now it causes big problems with cracking

Not only that your roof timbers settle if you have a heavy roof (tiles/slate). So all this has an effect also.

Yes that was at 2 when he was heading home and customer said don’t forget wall upstairs lol!
Yeah he rushed home to tidy his van......................then take photos of it...................There all round his house on the walls, furniture and bedside table................If he mentions his van................just make an excuse and get the feck out of there quick.

You said you made sarnies for a living yesterday.

@JessThePlasterer did that recently..packed up and put her hand out for the money....

'Hold on,' said customer - what about that reveal?

And there she was til ten o'clock.
Yes I was most upset as tears stung my eyes!

I’ve not been arsed to do more than skim read this thread (fantastic plastering pun, I know)

All I’ve seen is a a long conversation about width and length culminating into bumming in the back of vans whilst jauntily out dogging!

I may as well have watched the beach ball scene in Top Gun .... “playing with the boys” song in the background! Pmsl

You all need to get laid !
