Two and one gang looking for work

You need a time machine - go back to the 70's and 80's to see how 'Real Men' worked for £3,000- a week (on their own too) ... It's all a matter of Organisation, getting up early, and not taking breaks to go on your phone and check out Facebook every five minutes .... OH .... and actually putting...

    ceiling cracked every joint

Were you one of those Bods who tack 'along' the joists rather than the correct way 'across' the joists? Just a thought, but usually the reason when cracking as you describe here :-(

    Rates going back 20 years??

YEP! That would about right! BUT! We weren't hampered anywhere NEAR as much by Health & Safety as you are today and we could do a Street-a-Week (walls Only) to get the yardage in. Late 60's/to mid-70's we were working for £0-50p per Sq Yard in the Berks, Bucks & Hants area. 2 x coat sand &...

    Speedskim do I don’t i

It's not the trowel you use, it's the 'graft' you put in. I used to float/set 35 yards a day regularly with a 12" Tyzac. These 'new' additions to the tool kit are simply to keep an ailing 'tools economy' from going under :-( P.S. My profile shows me as a 'new member'. In fact, I've been here...

Advice ; Going rate for pricework per m2 on-site in 2017?

I'd be interested to know too. In the early 70's it was average £0.50p 'per sq yard' Float&Set - sand and cement with a three-coat Siraphite finish. Still used to manage about £250- a week though (Before all that Health&Safety nonsense

    The Speed Of This Forum

Such a shame this Forum is Sooooooo Slooooooow these days. (A little less advertising would speed up the site :-) Yahoo had the same problem with their Homepage - Now less Ads = Faster load-time. I know Ads pay for the forum, but what good is that if Google kicks it into touch for being TOO...

Unhappy with plastering work but unsure what to expect?

It's sad to say; But you've been 'had' - and not a lot you can do now. Also, don't assume because you're here that any offers to put it right by any of these members will guarantee a good job :-( There's no substitute for 'Due Diligence', and genuine 'personal referrals' that you can...

Hope you're good at running - The Tax-Man loves this Forum - How do you think they get their bonuses every week?? :-)

If you're daft enough to suggest using beads I'd retrain as a Chippy, they're a pretty dippy lot once they become Site-Agents ;-)

    Having a website..

If you have a Gmail account you can get a free Blog/website from them. Go to top on any google page - right hand 'squares' and choose 'Blogger' They have very professional looking themes and as long as you only promote yourself you will get GREAT!! Google-Juice :-) Go for it - every extra promo...

    Dot and dab marks

The outside render looks very amateurish - are you 'sure' you can trust your builder?? #OOPS!!

    Plaster coming off screw heads

. . Sounds like plasterboard being jammed 'too' tight up against ceiling. Should have at 'least' a 1/4" gap between ceiling and wall - OOPS!

    2 coats

Ye . . Yeh .... The local #Pikeys make a small fortune from the practice .... but they run and hide pretty fast, no hope of any snagging there ;-)
