I will probably still do that anyway (or too.) There aren't a lot of plasterers around here, but I'll scout around and make them an offer they can't refuse--to labor for cheap, or free if neccessary--for a day or two.
By the way, for a board to work off of, is some plain plywood good?
Do you use regular smooth plywood or do you need the kind that's finished on one side with birch or oak etc?
Do you have to do anything to the board before using it--paint or varnish it or anything so it doesn't suck the...
No, but there's not much call for plaster around here, so it's not carried by the vast majority of building material suppliers. Â Â I did remember another supplier just down the road who carries it though. Â Going to be much more convienent to get now.
Yeah, and for only 20 quid (or something like that :) .)
Seriously, I'm not expecting a DVD tutorial to make me a master plasterer. I was just hoping it might give me enough info to get started making some repairs or have a go at skimming a wall without completely botching it up.

Ahh...another complication.  Well nothing worth doing is easy.   Will see how it goes.  I'll be trying my hand at some repairs and patches soon. It's said a plaster finish is nicer than a plain plasterboard or a skim coat of joint compound, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it...
LoL. Ya. Like me trying to figure out what some of your slang terms mean and not being able to find PVA right off.
Sheetrook (which is really a brand name) or drywall (which you call plasterboard) and simply taping the seams and fastener holes has been the preferred wall and ceiling method in...
> Im guessin here but i dont think your in the uk???
Hi bigsegs. I guess that's becoming evident. I'm in Brooklyn, NY, USA. I have a couple of uncles in the UK though. :)
> ordinary plaster to me is thistle board finish or thistle multi finish, some places deal with knauf products.
Never...
I couldn't find any regular plaster the other day when I went looking for it. I finally located some at a building supplier in the next county, and I'll have to drive over there to get it.
Actually, what happened was I added too much powder to the water and it got way way too thick, then I added more water to thin it back to "normal." Maybe that speeded it up a lot. Anyway, I'll try again, probably tomorrow. Thanks.
