There is nothing said about what exactly the issues were; making the couple not pay! Maybe they were greedy wankers and this guys a silly man!

Should never come down to this, should all be in your quote! Don't give anyone a leg to stand on! ....... oh yeah and do a good job etc

Probably is wrong, but id be tempted to do the same. Old boss wasn't paid on a job and he went in with hammer and put all the plasterboard through and dented all solid walls

Whatever happened, the article is a fine example that trades haven't got a leg to stand on really.

Hard to say typical MSM Rogue builder heading & pictures off actual skilled tradesmen in article, lol so readers will blame the roofer guilty or not ! but surely if they had issue with his work easiest for him to rectify & get paid
Or he had a customer hell bent on not paying
Which would tip any hard working person

I had a right strop the other week as ide not been paid after two weeks, i rang the customer and thought best be polite. Turns out i hadn't entered the correct email address so they hadnt recieved the invoice! Numpty. :loco::hueco::cachetada:

Tut. That's just leaving yourself wide open.

What happened to putting the knife through every wall. That way, when you end up before the beak, you say that the customer expressed concerns about the work and you'd scratched it up preparatory to reskimming.

Got kicked off the job at that point and now he's chancing his arm to get the job done for free.

I like that......

Just read it and can’t help but think maybe he did a ok job. If he was a “rogue “ or not I doubt he’d rip all his hard work off , if you know what I mean

Wrong. Possibly not a rouge but impossible to say on limited details.
Just the way he went about it. It's common to have a "materials remain the property of..." clause, but the problem is causing damge whilst removing materials. Even if he'd have removed it with no damage, the next time it rained the building would have sustained damage caused entirely by his actions which is the criminal offence.

Always programmes about rouge builders since programmes about overly-fussy/non-paying/rouge clients doesn't make such good watching.

That clause is meaningless in law @zolco

You can't do fcuk all on anyone's property without their permission and you can't write anything in to the contract to circumvent the law.

If you do, it's criminal damage, end of chat. If it's on his property, then it's his until the beak says it's not.

Keep calm and say we keep in touch!
Next week car smashed.
The week after the other car smashed.
The following months windows started falling apart....
And then out of the blue..... sorry for the delay mate, I just transferred the rest of the money to you! Hope our business is concluded!

Laughed at the part from Trading Standards " the need for a buy with confidence trading standards scheme " regardless if your in the scheme or not this would still gave happened

I thought if they didn't pay the trades person still owns the materials because they paid for them?
Not sure, know my old boy is/was (retired) a photographer, and done wedding album gor a couple and they didnt pay and took them to court and lost somehow. As if someone would do an album for a stranger free of charge like that. Stupid

unless a contract states otherwise, title (ownership) of materials passes from the contractor to the client at the time of delivery, irrespective of whether payment has been made.

A retention of title clause would allow a supplier to retain ownership of materials until a specific time ie once the bill is paid then the ownership of materials would then be transfered to the client.

Also If you had a rention of title clause you could by rights remove those materials if the bill isn't paid.
but then if they have been fitted that becomes a problem because you can only remove them if it doesn't interfere with other trades contracts.
So for example if you hack your plaster off but its been painted or second fixed it becomes a whole different issue falling into criminal damage and what not.

What exactly is it you disagree with then @Stevieo

You can't cut about chiseling plaster off a customer's wall on the basis that it's your plaster and it hasn't been paid for.

Attacking his wall is a police matter, whereas you not being paid is civil.

You simply can't go about taking your work down for spite.

I've never been ripped off by a customer and I wouldn't hesitate to smash the place to f**k, ring the police and the press myself :) I would share the article all over social media to warn any other c**t of the consequences :) and let's have it right you won't go to jail xx
