Not worked on a site for 20 years , curious what average rates are mf 2 coat , cheers

Don’t worry mate! You look dumb enough to ask a question like this! Why don’t try mumsnet, they will tell you how much they got charged for plastering? Way clever step for you eh?
Well , a simple question about rates on site , not one sensible answer but at least it gave you a chance to feel good about yourself to belittle someone else

Really? If you are in this trade long enough you would have know rates vary actually and no one can tell you how much to charge as this is complex not single answer. We tried ...... the polite way and with sense of humour to tell you but you called us all dumb!

Many thanks for the response . The work I get from a couple of builders is a bit hit and miss and don't like private customers , I currently get £18 / HR with no pressure as their interested in quality ( lots of overskim ) Considering doing 6 months solid to save some money up . Thanks

How many bags do you do a day what you are doing

I'll manage 50 m2 no problems , considering average layout of flats , (can do a 40m2 cieling but you don't get may of those ), got a house to do in a few weeks ( mostly boards ) , one of the builders has been diagnosed with Parkinson's and am expecting less work , my children got married last few years and now got more time on my hands , don't like to make profit and have struggled with private customers as they usually want a quote and I refuse as it's almost always overskim , if they don't trust me why would I work for them

I always want to make a profit and you don't have to rip people off to do so. The man in your local shop is selling you Werther's Originals at a profit!

That's really dim, matey. Back in the day, I did same as you. Odd jobs, £40 first hour and £18-25/hr after that, depending on how quick they wanted the job done.

If a customer insisted on a price, then I'd make it clear that they'd be better off on the hour. If they said they didn't care, then I'd bang in a price at whatever I felt like at the time I was typing it up. Usually £250/300 a day. Customer wants to pay me an extra £140 for the guarantee of a price, then so be it.

The job I'm doing at the moment is about 2 hrs stripping, 1 hr s/c and a half day skimming. Should be 8 hrs work over two visits, but no. The customer wants a price to strip and a price to plaster. I've told him that I want a day's pay every time I put my boots on so he's just turned a £400 job into a £700 job, but who am I to argue? £700 it is.

I do understand the reality but just can't do it

I don't really have overheads , just want to be paid for working , it just seems fairer

Aye, builders will appreciate that but double your prices for domestic and bang your price in - if the customer thinks it's fair, then they'll take you up on it. If they don't, then you won't hear from them again and no embarrassment, especially if you - like me - just stick a note through the door about it.

Well I've got a great idea.
You start doing as much price work as possible for as high prices as you can get. Then you deduct your day rate from each months total, which you keep, and pass on any profit to me.
This way both of us are really happy.
Winner winner chicken dinner!

Hang on, what about me?

Where's my cut?

You'll find that if we can partner up on these terms, then I'll be a lovely man to work with.
