Worried about render

Hi, apologies for asking for help as a first post, but I was hoping someone could give me a bit of advice. I'm not a plasterer, but we've got someone rendering our house at the moment and I'm worried they're doing d a terrible job. It's not helped by the fact that they've been over four weeks late starting and generally their communication has been terrible - I don't feel I can really trust much of what they say...

Anyway, they've been this week to start (unfortunately I've been away at a show so it's just been my wife and the kids here) and they've got the base coat and beading on and then started rendering bit then the heavens opened on Thursday afternoon so they've stopped and are coming back on Monday to finish.

Looking at what they've done though, I'm really worried about the beading they've used around the windows. They seem to have framed them with stop beads - I would have expected them to have used angled corner ones. When I spoke to the guy on the phone he assured me it will all look good when finished but I'm not convinced and worried all of that ugly beading will still be on show.

I've attached some pics to show what I mean. Am I right to be worried? Or will they cover that up and it will all look nice?

Will they be able to cover them up, or will I be left with big ugly beading around all my windows? If that's the case I'm minded to tell them it's not acceptable before they do the finishing on Monday and get them to rip it out and replace with corner beading that looks nice and neat.

Dismal that. Dismal.
They couldn't even be arsed to cover it up knowing it was raining and its all stained now.
Scratch coat showing through, scraping too early, missed bits.....even your one eye sussed it @John j

Tbf, they're not claiming they've finished and are coming back to finish and do a "skim coat" apparently. I'm as much concerned going to be left with those awful beads exposed around every window and the doorway though

Might make a renderer yet lol. Got a little summer house to do over next few weeks. Mostly made up of little walls so plan to call on a night do a couple then scratch in mornig on way to work. Most walls are 2 ft x 8 ish so nice little filler job for me holiday money. Sold em all render cheap that i had so nice little earner. Its 3 different colours though so gonna look quite funky till he paints it

You dont usually cover beads up with more beads, so looks like you're stuck with those.
Also never heard of going over mono with a skim coat but I guess if they said they're coming back....I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

Actually I'm gonna get corrected there coz you can go over mono with mono as long as its (from memory) no more than 16 hours old...i think.

Do you only do the t/c stuff now?
Ocr mate all my jobs are hack off old and replace with new just waste of time mono on them imo
No one wants to pay for all the materials,
Get fed up with public asking for it tbh , it’s like a buzz word they don’t even know what it is most of the time
I’m sure there must be threads on mums next about it or something, the marketing has definitely worked

I honestly think that OCR is a worse material than mono. We only use it as a two coat system with added fibres. If there's space for materials and a mixer I'd use S&C all the way.

I'd be worried too. Can't tell a great deal from the photos provided but what I can see does not look good.

If you mean Weber mate tbh I’d agree
It’s crap too

Why you putting fibres in it ?

Ohhhh.......it’ll look ok once painted...........in the dark............from a distance of eleven hundred yards............minimum.

Trouble is, it looks like a fair bit has been done. Contractor will say. “Ffs sake mate, you’ve let me do all this, and now you complain?”.........

The work is a shambles. You cannot finish on a Monday, its as finished as it can be.

As for the beads? Angle beads on angles, stop beads where you come to a stop.

There is a way to rescue this. A skim over with what is called a thin coat render with thin coat meshed beads over the stop beads then a silicone finish.

Kick these jokers off as you will need someone who knows what they are doing.

You will see the beads now that’s finished

From the oracle. Good advice. Take it.

Thanks for the replies and advice everyone. Sounds like it's as s**t a job as I suspected... Rigsby - appreciate the advice on how the shambles might be rescued - they're in for an interrogation tomorrow morning, so I'll be hoping they come up with a similar solution. It's really good to know what I should be hearing so thank you.

Definitely a shambles, they either don't care or don't know. Out of interest was they the cheapest quote and recommended?

Oh I haven't even shown you the section where the render has been completely rinsed off the wall by the rain...

We only had a couple of quotes tbf and they were good value. They supposedly have a decent reputation, but I feel they've got completely behind on this job (it's well over a month late starting) and then they've rushed it and hoped that the massive storm that was forecast would arrive late.

Could be they are using stop beads, cause it looks good for them, and somehow they had some other customers who liked it. )

Right i’ve managed to have a good look at this and it’s put me off my tea. Take it that panel with the key lines in are what they’re coming back to finish. To get caught out with the heavens opening is novice. It’s been scratched wet, brushed wet, as rigsby says thin coat would work you may well need quite a few bags of level coat to get it flat first to stop it looking like a toads back. Or roughcasting over it might work won’t be a cheap option but done right it will look the part.

Don't excuse it, It looks s**t and it's more work than using proper corner beads.

No doubt they had a load left from another job and decided to use them.

Looks terrible, cheap and plasticky, no doubt.

But it seems someone is doing it that way, maybe on quite a few jobs. Lol

If customer was around when first bead was put, and said no-no, than problem could have been easily prevented...

Perhaps the customer should have been standing over him to tell him he didn’t have enough gear on the reveals to avoid misses aswell. And the customer should have really told him to use the scratcher in a circular motion rather that up and down the window to avoid straight line scratching.
