Sound proofing right or wrong

Joiner just said on his house he.s wanting sound boards dotting on stair wall . I said your wasting your money as it will do f**k all as sound will travel through dots. Am I right or wrong. I said I think you need to build another stud wall of that wall for them to work.
Obviously no room on stairs for this so is there another way to sound proof wall

I'm pretty sure you need to pack it with ...I dunno...stuff.

Scratch coat of bg soundcoat on party walls then dab with sound bloc boards . That used to be spec on site

That’s for sound control. Won’t have any effect.

I never said I knew what stuff, did I? Just that I think you have to pack it with stuff of some sort and not just dab up boards. That stuff seems to be for recording studios. Don't know what it does ;)

He should just kill his neighbours if he's having troubles with noise I know it's a bit extreme but it does work! You just need to remember to hang around for a few months to tell neighbours and family that they emigrated to Mexico!! Make sure you burn them good then cover the bones in lime!!! f**k**g Smith's last time I tell you to turn that f**k**g music off.....I win.

That looks good stuff Jess but hard work pairing it.. I would stick sound block on with a good building adesive (tube) stuff. At least you tried. Other wise it'll keep bugging. You. Had a nabour once didn't work quiet during day at night would start using power tools for one night only big time. Then couple of weeks later my wife would say have you seen next doors lodger.

Nonshensh. What you need is a vengeance weapon.

Like this, the Revenge-o-matic.

Dot and dap sound board don't work. Need resilient bars and 5mm gap app all the way round filled with mastic then skimmed

Dose pack out the wall a bit (100mm). This really needs to be done from new so not really an option especially on stairs. I think if I was to dot and dab stairs with sound block I would use foam as the adhesive. Foam blocks the sound vibrations way more the plaster dab so that on paper should help greatly however, don't let the board touch or rest on the ceiling/ floor /edges and fill with the sound mastic when foam is set. Sound doesn't travel through foam as not solid like plaster

is existing plaster still on wall?
If so, is it good and solid?
