Had a lady ring me today to price a ground floor extension. 2 rooms about 4x5m dab and skim and tack ceilings. Pretty booked up solid for about a month so quoted on the heavy side of £1500 labour . She told me she had a 2 quotes . One for £750 and one for £3200. Unbelievable. Anyway I got the job .

I quoted a bloke who emailed me to say, reading between the lines, that I was ripping him off! He’d had another quote all in, which would have covered my material cost without labour. Wtf. And im the bad guy? Bet his kitchens a mouldy, damp hovel now

I had a call off someone yesterday asking iv I added a 1 onto the start of my quote by accident lol someone went in a grand cheaper, they must be working for £50 a day

There seems to be money about at min for us plasterers . Pay rise time
My mate is a top class joiner, he told me at weekend he bump into 2 guys that used to work for him, he said they were not that good. They are clearing £1000 for 3 day week after deductions on Scottish New build. As there is a national shortage of plasterboard that's why 3days on their site. Mate was thinking back to sites here I go.

Goes to show she it’s not always about the price . She could of gone with the cheapest quote but she said it seemed to cheap and didn’t want a bad job and I seemed to know what I was talking about .

I’ve said this so many times but

Wouldn’t suprise me. No dignity some people. I prefer working for people who can afford to have it done nicely, cleanly and with care. I can feel good about my work and feel fairly paid n they can be happy with the work and glad they paid the extra for the full package.

Done some work for a grotty investor once who just wanted patching n “quick skims” did one day n blocked his number. Made me feel dirty lol

Personally I think £1500 sounds too cheap, I'd probably price a couple of grand atleast for that, either way though the money is definitely out there at the minute!

Last Thursday I cleared £460 for re skimming just the walls in a similar sized room, good times

Sorry I misread your post, £1500 was labour only! I would have been similar then!

That job would be boarded & ceiling skimmed day 1 day & walls day 2 then to another job... fookin around for a week

Or maybe they’v heard how rough you are n leave glory holes in ceilings

If it was me 4 nice days, board 1 and a half day 1, finish board and prep day two, 2 days of board skimming, absolute winner at £1500 labour
