Went to quote a job for an architect/old friend last night. Fill a load of chases and sockets, holes etc, pva and reskim four walls. Before I left my old mate said he had another quote for £140 dayrate and £60 materials. I can’t beat that and have no desire to match it but I’m a bit disappointed in my old mate he’s a chartered architect and an old friend and I’ve not long skimmed his last 3 bedroom property and left a really tidy job, the other guy that priced isn’t even a plasterer he’d a young lad that has picked up a bit of skimming multi trading with his dad. Some discussion on here few weeks ago about dreadful prices and people driving rates down, and whether a cheap price would beat a good recommendation.....

I was just surprised even though I’ve done good quality work in the past and he’s recommended me to other architects and clients, he’s had his head turned by a cheap quote. Better off subbing and just turning up to work with a tool bag rather than going out doing quotes for that money.

On site I like to moan about other trades, Ppe, the state of the toilets, parking etc
Fuk moaning. We moan multi on walls every day just smash a few big bin folks on and get gone moneys in bank Friday no mithering customers (y)

I don’t do mates rates and I even charge my own family when they need work, perhaps I’m the greedy one? Lol

I'm the same, I wouldn't expect friends or family to work for me for discounted rates, it'd be the equivalent of telling them to use someone else but paying half the bill for them.. ridiculous. The more people respect eachother and pay fairly, the more likely you are to actually help eachother out.

Just saying with friends like that you don’t need anymore enemies...........remember we’re there’s money involved there is always a price and it doesn’t matter who you are what your relationship to the person ....money before integrity

Theres £100 on gauge 3 bags . Two of them bit of beading home for 3 no aggro. Not sheeting up or fuk all

Can definitely see the positives. Turn up. Skim. Go. It’s great if you’ve got the work but I’ve seen so many site monkeys get snagged off site or even decent spreads get moved on by younger fitter crews. There’s no loyalty there.

At least with domestic, every job is another notch in your reputation. So you’re getting paid but also kind of investing in yourself too. So when you get older can pick n choose the jobs or take a lad on but always have work due to good rep.

I’ve trained plenty of young lads that would piss all over u ,your a domestic pussy cat the lads I’ve trained are metre monkeys pal different league to u lol

Yeah yeah yeah here comes story time. Let me guess one of your trainees went on to skim 10 downing street

@Cornelius , tell him you don't want him to recommend you to anyone he knows , works for me , eliminate the scum and only work for decent people who have more respect

No friends in business .

Though I do half price for family n close friends but they have to wait for me or it's full price if they want it booking in

Who on earth would want to fuk about in someone else's house all day sheeting up and talking shite to customers. I'd rather have less money and peace of mind. I've done domestic work loads of it during the last recession pile of utter wank .

Just priced a job . Got to sheet up and clean up. Put double price and still got job but would still prefer to just rock up chucknit on and go home for half of money

I’ve been doing it for many years and earned very good money but your right it’s a ball ache most the time. Nice to get a one off new build every now and then.
