Bad plastering and plasterer refusing to fix it or even come look

f**k off with this bullshit I can’t take anymore.

5 or 6? Was it 5 , or 6? 6 plasterers not wanting to do it means 1 of 2 things. You’re on ‘a budget’ ugh. Or you didn’t really contact that many.

You’ve gone cheap. You’re on a budget. Who else lives without a kitchen for 6 f**k**g months. Minging. You’ve got a cheapy in and now you’re not happy as you’ve got exactly what you’ve paid for. The fact you only wanted £100 back confirms this is a cheap job.

I see that style plastering all the time. That’s dave from the pub. That’s micks mate joe who learned a bit in hmp parc. That’s a kitchen fitter who’s gone quiet. That’s a ‘builder’ . That isn’t a plasterer.

It really isn’t that hard to find a decent plasterer. Yes you’ll have to wait for him so use come common sense and book him in for x weeks away so you can get the kitchen out just before. Or whatever you’re doing.

Pay the price. Stop scrimping through life. Plastering is the one thing you should never be a pikey about. It’s always on show. Everyone sees it.

A decent spread wants, or should want (some lads on here still don’t understand this) decent money. He/she will loosen all sockets off. Skim them all flush. Leave a perfect finish.

The difference between a ‘plasterer’ and plasterer is night and day.

How’s that @Danny
Like it lol Christ did u type that out or talk to yer mic @lurpak

6 months with out a kitchen f**k me that’s a struggle ,must have take away credit card

Doesn’t matter what any newbie on here posts it always get twisted then the abuse starts. Some place this
Nothing wrong with an honest reply mate , people shouldn't come on here and expect a biased opinion , they have got a unanimous crap plastering vote

Seen it before kitchen wrecked, at least a day or more hacking of plaster and bonding it all out just to get it ready to skim. Plus the usual new boiler and re-wire with new sockets and switches they want left spotless. Then the kicker the budget doesn't even cover a simple re-skim.

Main problem with jobs like that is that the pumber the spark and the kitchen fitters have taken all the money off the job and plastering is just an afterthought when it's just as important as the rest of the work.

More important, I think, it’s what every one sees, nobody thinks Christ that joint looks s**t or that box isn’t level but get a bead out by half a mil and it’s the end of the world

who seriously who gives a fuuck what it cost

who the fuuck would wanna plaster around all that shite

unprofessional from everyone.

good afternoon Stevey

I certainly wouldn't want to.

Just with all this talk of cheapy cheap, at least give the girl a chance to say it wasn't.

Diy lead astray , sparks and plumbers are seen as no1 , the trouble is these trades are usually so insular and never consider the customers inexperience , just worry about their own job and get out the door asap

Hello,
I’m having a big problem with my plastering. We needed the whole kitchen replastered but no recommended plasterers we’re getting back to us (we tried around 5 or 6). After 6 months with no kitchen (this time was spent sorting other bits out too, not just waiting for a plasterer) at all we were getting desperate and found an advert in our local newspaper. We’re new homeowners and have never had to deal with this kind of thing before, so we’ve definitely learnt from that mistake now.
However, just because he wasn’t recommended I don’t think that makes he standard of work acceptable.
we have holes and gaps around doors, sockets, and pipes (with bits not even attempted between pipes), holes, scratches, dents, and overall just a huge mess.
I’ve talked to him on the phone, but he just got very angry and refused to accept that his work isn’t okay. We had a family member who is a retired plasterer come take a look before we called him, just to make sure we were right and had some knowledge to back up what we were going to say to him. Because we had someone else look he’s refusing to come back and fix it. He won’t accept that he’s done bad work and won’t let me send him photos.
I’ve said I’d be happy with knocking £100 off the bill as we have so much to fix, but he will only take £60 off which I don’t feel is acceptable. (I feel like £100 is probably overly fair tbh)
He’s now threatening to take me to small claims court as “he knows he’ll win”, but I feel like if it did go that far we have a pretty good case against him. Am I right to be annoyed about this work? And do you think he’s just bullying and threatening me thinking I’ll give in? I’m only a 5 foot nothing female librarian who hid away most of the time he was here, so I’m sure he thinks he can intimidate me.
Any thoughts, opinions, and advice would be gladly received. Thank you!

I'm not saying this is anything special Barbara
but you would of got this if it wasnt 2nd fixed and boiler on.

I certainly wouldn't be happy plastering if sockets and boiler were fixed.

I may have some books that need returned from 25 years ago xx

You want to see the destruction an inexperienced spark can do to a re-wire on lath and plaster when they've served their time on new builds.
Then you come long and give a price to repair the trail of destruction and they look at you as if you're trying to fleece them. I suppose they don't look at the burst and broken lath the plaster that no longer has a key and has to be removed wires proud of the raggles and boxes proud and hanging on by a thread. Yet the spark gets paid and probably gets a recommendation too.

To be fair I completely agree with @lurpak . I’ve seen this a few times. Been over someone else’s work once and it was horrible. Ripping beads out, hacking at crap.

And I’ve been the person who got ridiculously undercut on a kitchen extension, told they didn’t understand my price blah blah and then sent me these pictures and asked if I’d come back . I politely didn’t but I did give them credit for their balls to call and apologise.

I still feel bad for our librarian. It’s not fair to do that to anyone’s house. You definitely shouldn’t let this bloke intimidate you or pay for that work.

I haven’t paid yet, but the price was £360 for a small, empty 4.3m X 1.8m kitchen.

Good. Don't pay.

Invite him back round with your retired plasterer relative there and invite him to explain to him just exactly why you SHOULD pay. I can pretty much guarantee that he won't show up.

Also, if you feel bullied in any way, then stop communicating with him by phone and switch to text.

Ps £360 is very, VERY cheap.
See I thought this was a pretty normal price as I obviously had no clue. But I would have been okay paying more than that. I was definitely not just after a cheap job, otherwise I just wouldn’t have bothered getting it done at all.
I’ve definitely learnt a lot from this situation but I’m not going to let this man walk all over me.

Just text him and tell him that you feel that there are aspects of the job that you aren't happy with and you'd like him to come round at half past four tomorrow so that him and great uncle Jed can discuss the job and he can explain to him because he's a retired plasterer and your little lady brain can't understand.

I guarantee that he won't show up and that'll be the end of it. You'll have£360 to put towards getting a proper job done.

I did offer to remove all of the socket covers before he started but he told me he’d do it. I asked if there was anything else we could do before he started (he came to view the kitchen twice before he started) and was told no and that it was fine. I was never told I needed to remove anything apart from the radiator and the last worktop, which I did.

Apologies for not being an expert and knowing what price to expert. As I said, I wasn’t just after a cheap job. I wanted a GOOD job.
I would have been happy to pay more but didn’t know what price I should expect.
Was I stupid? Probably! I’ve learnt from this for the future though, but I refuse to accept a finish this poor.

I’m just struggling to believe 6 spreads wasn’t interested.

Could we at least see some pics of the overall work ie; not macro pics on sockets?

Well we called/text/left voicemails and never heard back. One was a friends brother-in-law, one was a friend of the family, others were recommended.
I have a few shots of the corners, where the walls meet ceiling, etc. But will have to take full shots tomorrow if you would like to see them then
