How long do you give it

Done a full room after work, customer was begging for it to be done, finished about half 7, he come round said all was good and he would bank transfer me the money that night. Nothing comes across that night.

Text on Thursday asking what happened to the bank transfer, got told yes, only to be hit with is it OK if I pay you in cash tonight? I said yes, got a text that night saying he's stuck in Blackpool and won't be home tonight, he will sort me out Friday.

Friday comes, I ask about 11 if he's OK if I come get the cash off him instead, he said yes, Friday night comes and he has gone out for a meal with his wife and wont be back till late can he see me in the morning.

Text him about an hour ago, and he's out for an anniversary.

Real question here is - how long before I go back and hack it off or do I give him more time

I've only had this once or twice.

What I do lay siege to the f**k*r and pretend to be incredibly stupid so his excuses bounce off me.

If he says on Monday he'll pay Friday, I'll ring him on Tuesday anyway.

Any luck with that money, pal?
And text him on Wednesday
And knock on his door on Thursday
And ring him on Friday morning
And knock on his door on Saturday.
And text him on Sunday.

Never being aggressive, just acting like I've forgotten the excuse he gave me.

Eventually they realise that I'm such an arse that the only way to stop hearing from me every single day for the rest of their lives is to pay up.

Write a letter , pointing out that you went out of your way to do the work for him and list your attempts and his catalogue of excuses , tell him you've now been offended by this and would prefer he does bank transfer as originally agreed , slip into it that he said he was happy with work done , keep a copy , once paid mention that you would prefer that he doesn't pass your number on as you don't want customers like him , if he was passed your number by a previous customer let them know you don't want recommendations by them and show them a copy of your letter , social embarrassment works

And that, friend, is how you end up with the customer crayoning all over your Google advert and writing abuse on your Facebook page.

Never ever upset a customer. Even a s**t one.

I disagree with you Steve , in the short run you may be right but treating such contempt with grovelling only perpetuates things to becoming the norm , if your a good , honest hardworking spread and take no crap such as this example of a customer, then you will find life much simpler , one customer like this puts the price up for decent customers

Cheeky f**k*r is trying it on mate! You need to get round there and knock on his door and either collect the cash or get him to transfer it straight away. you can check it on your phone there and then to make sure it’s been paid.

It's not grovelling. You pester the man until he pays and then say thank you very much and leave him be with a mental note never to work for him again.

Sending spiteful messages insulting him and his friends achieves nothing and is foolhardy in the extreme when we live in an age where a few strokes of the key can do you a terrible mischief.

So when did the truth become spiteful , its a business decision that you don't want such customers , as I pointed out , this pissing around costs money and the decent customers are paying for it

I agree, it’s very difficult but you allow them a little moral victory and that’ll be the end of it. Otherwise you’ll get a stalker for life

Every time he sets foot out a door this !

You think he's going to let you in to hack it off?

You'll see.
Have worked on this principal for 30 y after being pissedabout before , wouldn't go back , I get paid straight away , theirs no point in getting stressed about shits who think they're being clever , out them or they do it to the next guy

It's a daft road to go down to be honest mate, no one wins and I could even get hit with criminal damage etc if I cause more damage taking it off or damage anything - its not worth it for a room

I can hear the chants in the distance of Hack it off, hack it off, hack it off!
Fella heard chanting coming out of the loon bin one day.
Thirteen thirteen thirteen.
It just so happened that there was a hole in the fence right by all the noise so he stuck his eye to it as you would.
The second he did, somebody poked him in the eye and the chanting stopped.

Then it started again.

Fourteen fourteen fourteen.

This get me big time when people avoid paying. Tell him you got bills to pay like him. Don't understand y people do this. If you ask some one to do work you make sure you got the money to cover it. I think they should educate kids in school about this then it be less of a problem

Like I said ,, put up with it , let them know it's " part of the game " as word spreads everyone else will cotton on and it'll be the norm lol

Apart from 2 times when I first started I.ve never had a prob getting paid . Touch wood.
Other plasterer even says he loves working with me as at end of job i just ask for pay

People don’t like paying , once the day has past you become the last important thing on there mind , there’s also the internet full of advice and information on how not to pay, even off people on here
Hope you get your money mate
The worse for paying people whith money.

Never had a non payer in 20 years of domestics, did have somebody under pay by £15 but that was a biggoted orange b*****d so it was worth the money to never see his ugly hun face again.

Am a plastering wizard a true thoroughbred bred to plaster from an early age, I skimmed a full room when I was 7 and for Christmas that year I asked for a Refina mega mixer.

These mere mortal customers don't deserve this level of craftsmanship is my attitude on this.

f**k off. You're a one coating site monkey and the customer is witholding payment until he can get on here and ask

'is this job ok?'

No snaggers behind you on domestic, sunshine.

Just another reason to add to the list of why domestic jobs aren't worth the hassle

lol. Majority of site monkeys these days can only skim board. They get found out on domestic pretty fast. Having to work around pipes, sockets, over artex, odd bit of floating, blending, making good etc etc.

And the only reason they try domestic is because they’re either snagged off site or can’t keep up.
