Hello everyone

Joined the forum today just introducing myself. I'm expecting a baby and paid for someone to skim what will be the nursery. I don't think the finish is good though but don't have a clue and would like some opinions.

I've sent the video to my dad and he says it's not good at all and I should get him back to rectify. What do you think? (My dad lives away so couldn't help me with the job unfortunately but he is a DIY plasterer and previous painter and decorator and a perfectionist ) So I just want to get other opinions as well if that's ok?

The guy who skimmed it never asked me to remove the skirting boards beforehand. I now realise from reading on this forum that removing skirting is better for the finish. But still thought it looks a bit rough...

oh dear,

ejay, i know/understand/appreciate, new baby on the way, money will be tight, but it does need a plasterer in and get the room reskimmed,
where are you based,

good luck with baby,

He is coming back on Wed evening to look over the problems but worried he will fob me off and I've stupidly paid him. I'll wait and see what he says he can do to rectify it. I just feel so stupid!

He knocked the cupboard out for me over the stairs bulkhead so for that and skim of the room 500

But can this be rectified without needing to be re skimmed? What if he refuses to? What should I say to him? He's a Which? trader don't know if that counts for anything? Thank you

It's going to be similar dough for a decent decorator to save it, to what a decent spread will be to put it right.

I'd ask a few decorators locally, ideally one with a drywall (giraffe) sander for prices.

Don’t feel stupid. He’s the one who should be hanging his head in shame!

I’ve been mentioned here and I’d love to sort this out for you but it would depend on dates.

I really wouldn’t have him back to re do though because he simply can’t plaster. He should definitely give you money back though

Thank you Jess. He admitted he rushed it and apologised. He's sanded and filled and sanded again and given us some money back. We'll probably make do with it as don't have the budget to have it redone and a decorator seems to think it'll be alright to paint now . How can I find you for future work? as I'd like to get my son's room skimmed later this year once we remove the old paper! Ellie

That's a better result than most people get. Usually he can't sort it and has already niffed your money away

Not the best result but at least you got some money back,he didn’t rush the job at all,he just can’t plaster to a great standard
