Bad rendering (roughcasting) job ??

I’m looking for some advice from the experts on here, we got 3 quotes to have our house roughcast as we call it in Scotland. We went with the guy who sounded most knowledgable and he wasn’t the cheapest. 2 storey end terraced house.

The finish looked patchy but we were told it was just the dust on the stones and after some rain it would go away. It hasn’t and there’s other issues like clumps behind drain pipes, some parts hardly any stones. Paint on our new window frames where the window sills were painted.

What’s everyone’s genuine opinions on this job am I being too picky or is this just a mess ? Photos show a bit of everything, one of the door shows where our new door has been chipped with him throwing the stones at the wall and obviously at the door

Why weren't the downpipes removed?

Downpipes have been there since the house was built in 1954 cast iron. To be fair every other house in the street is the same at the back they don’t get removed, was told that as the plumbing from the toilet etc comes from upstairs it would be a plumber if we wanted them off or renewed. To be fair that’s the least annoying bit of a rubbish job. I don’t get why it’s all patchy

Andy is right...who the f**k renders pipes into the wall. Have seen it a few times where they start leaking into the wall. Secondly the job looks rough...as in rough and a rough finish. With so many options on the market for smart finishes why would you have something so ugly on your house? Anyway if you don't take the pipes off how do you expect the poor f**ker to render behind them? looks like he has done a good job all considered.

Some of the stones do look quite dark - that could be the shade difference and make it look patchy.

The top half is white with grey stones, bottom part is grey with grey stones but it’s sooo patchy it looks awful

Not really, the climate dictated it and historically its become the finish of choice. There are better products in modern terms.
The problem is any other finish is going to stand out like a sore thumb in a sea of roughcast.

Looks ok to me...you are being picky. Paint it if you think it looks patchy. No way would I have that finish on my house though rough as f**k
