Lime plastering

Hi

I'm about to start plastering a solid stone internal wall. I've hacked off the old damp gypsum plaster and concrete. Do I need to hack out the pointing and repoint before plastering. It's the old lime pointing and it's in a pretty good state. I'm assuming not. Also, although a good wall with nice stone, it's pretty uneven with some large dips in the surface. My concern is that my scratch coat is going to be pretty deep in places, leading to uneven drying and carbonating. Maybe I should gradually fill these dips until I have a fairly even surface and then start my scratch coat?

Carry on as you seem to be doing it ok be a slow process though

Have you thought of using an insulated hemp hot lime?. You can build it out to 25/30mm coats. It's good for dubbing out as well and it doesn't need much aftercare for shrinkage
