Cleaning steel trowels

Has anyone got any tips ? I usually soak stainless trowels not sure if you can soak steel?
I’m going away for two weeks soon so was going to give all my tools a bath if I soaked my steel and bought the stuff that gets rust off would that work or ?

Yes but will a trowel rust if left in liquid

Vinegar and salt.
Takes a couple of hours then sand with wet and dry. Bicarbonate of soda will neutralize. Oil to finish

When were did they become display items ? Makes no sense to me, just scrape them down and use them again .

I've yet to try it but was told that kettle descaler is very good

soak them over night in water
quick brush off the rust
spray wd40
