Tacky or gritty

Hi, I'm trying to find out what the difference is between tacky and gritty bonding agents prior to plastering or tiling, which is better for either job.

Tacky adhesives are still tacky when you plaster over them and gritty adhesives are gritty, but dry when you go over them.
