Hi! Would appreciate coving advice

Hi all! I have recently DIY installed some GRG Plaster coving (pics attached).

Overall I am pretty happy with the job, and I don’t think it’s bad for my first ever go. However, on a couple of the pieces the adhesive had started to go off before I got to cleaning the joints (did too many at once), and when cleaning them off with the busks I think I was pressing too hard considering the plaster was wet and it’s left some marks. I even tried doing it again over the following couple of days but it was still leaving the same marks.

I would really appreciate some advice on how to sort this as on a deadline before carpet fitting. The plaster coving was fitted a few weeks ago so it’s all fully dry now.

Do I keep using the busks to try and shape it, or just sandpaper? Do I go over it with adhesive again, or get some plaster of paris? Or do I prime it and then just use a normal filler like Toupret or Easifill (I’ve heard this can crack)?

Any advice would be massively appreciated. Thank you. Craig

Toupret is even finer than Easifil, sands easier and is cheaper. Bit of a no brainer.
As Flotsum said, bloody good effort.

Rkn you cd feather joints with BG Easifill and sand smooth..

Thanks a lot, really appreciate the comment and feedback! I was wondering with Easifill etc whether the plaster might absorb the moisture too quick and it could dry out and crack. Or will it be ok?

Thanks a lot, really appreciate it . I did try a bit of Toupret fine fill on a scrap piece and sanding it was a nightmare, it ended up taking more off the non-filled bit and exposing the glass fibres. I have a big tub of Toupret Joint & Skim, do you reckon that would be better?

Shoud be ok.

If still worried cud wipe with damp cloth then apply.

Try v fine sandpaper 240 ^

Also try brushng filler on wide area not just small band by joints.

Try long sanding blocks even tho sandpaper just 6" in middle of block. Helps sandpaper not dig in each end of stroke. eg. 12" scrap broom handl

Slow long strokes not fast short :chica:

Sometimes sm felt or thin padding on sanding block can help.

The powder toupret is one of the easiest and finest fillers to sand. Better than easy fill IMO.

Perhaps you’re in a hard water area! :coffe:

Thanks for the reply . I cut them at 45 on the long walls and quite happy with how they turned out. The bay window has a slight curve so I had to cut it into about 12 x 100mm pieces as with anything bigger we were ending up with inch gaps along the bottom. Was a nightmare

Not bad mate just dampen area a bit of easy fill or similar let it dry then rub down with fine sand paper
