Bonding adhesive

Hello, I'm in a DIY nightmare of many dimensions. This but is about filling sparks chases. Went to my merchants and they told me to fill them with bonding compound, which worked quite well, no slumping with only a few minor cracks. I'm sanding it back 2 days later and it's still damp underneath.
The questions I have are:
1......how long will this take to dry? Depth is anything from zero where the metal chase cover is showing (I'llneed to cover that) to 15/20 mm
2......should I have left it recessed in the chase (this wasn't advised at purchase)
4......what should I apply over the top before I paint it
5.....or can I now just coat it with PVA before painting it

Sorry for so many dumb questions, but the trade terms are hard to follow. I did as advised at the store and it just isn't looking good

Thanks for any help

Depends on temp and wall construction/underlying issues.

Leave it a couple of hours after applying and scrape it back and let it dry.

Finish with Toupret filler and sand to perfection
