Over artexed walls...above a dado rail. Yep i underestimated it. It was sooo humid today the plaster was setting in half the time AND there was zero suction as the walls were painted vinyl silk AND PVA'd twice. Oh and to top it all, THe job was in a top floor flat. Niiiice :RpS_crying: Thank fook it's over lol

Yer I ve done a 30' x 12' ceiling today and it was bloody warm , but hey ho the deed is done cash on the hip what more can you say.

It's catching this Sunday working lark - I banged a scratch coat on a garage today, on two sides I had to jump a 4ft wall to get at it, like being in the Olympics :RpS_scared:

I always say it....NO more weekends!!! But circumstances dictate otherwise! Still, it's better to sit with a few bob in your pocket than have nowt.

Aye, i'm afraid it's the same old story, take it while it's there. As always, it won't last. To be fair though, i couldn't keep up with it. Love the cash though :RpS_biggrin:

Got a full living room on tomorrow and tuesday. Ceiling is 5x4 over artex and walls are in a state!!! :RpS_crying:

when we have to skim on to silk emulsion we only give it one coat of pva. if it has not dried by the the time that we are ready to skim we put a spounge over it to take some of the pva off. but then again we are not fecking about on sundays

If wor lass didnt work weekends and i have to hav the bairns i would probably be the same as you boys............you never wanna turn out down do ya

I always use blue grit now. Been pva'ing a whole house on a mates job and its so much of a ballache. Pva. Get water ready. Pva. Wait for it to tack up. Then it always sets quicker as the pca is drying. Would much rather spend 1 day blue gritting the whole house and beading ul. Then you can just keep skimming. Plus if you have a bit of mix left over you can put a couple of reveals on without having to start pvaing again

well, strange as it sounds. The PVA dried in 15 minutes due to the heat. I had all the windows open so the air was circulating. Can't remember ever seeing PVA dry so fast over painted artex!!!!!

same as what i do steve just set up as much as you can never waste any skim then, theres always a little reveal that can go on somewhere

It wants to dry really, the grit needs to be held in position and not roll around too much. In the summer it doesn't need 24 hours. Just do it the night before and it should be ok in the morning.

Diluting with pva and water seems to set it a bit quicker, probably because it's going on a bit thinner.

Watering it down too much is not good though, the solution needs to be of a certain viscosity as to evenly distribute the grit, too thin and you get baron patches.

The smaller the grit, the more it can be diluted. That is why you can water down WBA/betakontact more.

might try it, think id put the first gauge on with pva then while waiting use a diluted mix for the rest as doing it the day before the job starts is hardly ever possible
