I have been away on hols, but the last job i did all the bottom of arms were sore, i`, sure it was the multi i was using, i`m never one to complain about the quality, or the bags, but id swear blind that stuff almost burnt my arms
Where you been you lush?

Bg recommend 2mm but you can only get 3mm beads! I think multi is to sticky now you get a lot of build up on trowel (steel) to keep trowel clean you need scraper now not brush and water.

Butter joints, jute scrim then skim with board finish , two wet trowels then one dry and a cross trowel to finish.:)

I sign the petition aimed @bg
The finish has changed in workability. Finish still the same (rough :)) ) but a bit more work in getting it to that standard!!
Also @bg I have an idea with the magnetic side of the plaster would be interested to hear a thought!

@spunky....hard to explain tbh... but you can tell from the instant its knocked up...
its as though its mixed with pva or something is my best explanation....
can still manage to finish it but it looks and feels wrong from the bucket to the handboard to the wall???

I doubt you will get an answer from BG based on what I have read. They don't need to answer your queries as you will buy it anyway so don't need to know. Now if you had an alternative you would be able perhaps to leverage them a bit. That said there could be all sorts of things that will change how the material performs. The key I guess is consistence. The products seem not to be behaving consistently so you can't predict or adapt to fit. This could be a change in gypsum raw material source, material grading, blane test results, particle size, shape and solubility, different plasticisers, longer or shorter plant storage times, and many many more. It must be frustrating not getting the answer you want but if you think about where they are if they tell you there is a change you and your colleagues could open the flood gate of claims against them. I think you are onto a loser trying to get answers.

I speak to BG almost on a daily basis these days and they are watching very closely to your questions...

There are lots of things that could effect MF and a lot of it comes down to storage by suppliers :-(

The mine is at a fairly constant depth gypsum sits in a seam about 8ft thick approx 100m below the surface,
From what I understand the mine at east leake has enough gypsum left for about another 20years before the whole mining operation moves to a new site (Yorkshire I think).
The mine are required to send material to the surface with a minimum percentage of gypsum in.
They obviously use the highest quality gypsum for dental, casting and even for the brewery's as most ale has gypsum in.
This leaves a lower quality gypsum for the rest of the range obviously there is a tolerance for the quality of the gypsum used in finish, I suspect the closer they get to the lowest acceptable level the tolerance allows, the worse the finish becomes just used a pallet of multi that was almost like clay sticky, greasy then it flash set, pallet before was a dream to use.
Everything was constant background, the application, number of trowels the water came from the same tap, temperature was the same, boards came off the same wagon and went straight in the plot's.
The only thing that was inconsistent was the multi (the bag dates were the same) the plant batch multi in quite small amounts about 4 tonne at a time so your not guaranteed that the top of the pallet will be the same as the bottom as they may came from different batches.

That comes from BPB Formula, different mine based in Newark. Also, Multi is run in huge batches out of Barrow.

Only ever seem to have consistency issues when our gear comes from Sheffield insulation.
Gears come from ccf this week and its been a joy to use.
Must just be a strange coincidence

You lot make me laugh how many threads has there been complaining about multi going off to quick, now you want faster setting finish pmsl, take up taping instead and use easifil you can take your pick how fast you want it

Storage by suppliers is a lame excuse, the lorries from bg delivering to suppliers are not temperature or humidity controlled!

Your right but if the plaster is stored mainly outside by some suppliers then this may cause an issue

Allways buy my finish from wickes and have done for years, only had problems with it over the last few weeks.
The problem is with the manufacturer . I agree totally with @zombie . The quality of the multi has gone downhill, this needs sorting out. The introduction of unifinish was not needed and its poor performance means many spreads have avoided using it.

Not noticed any probs with multi tbh? Even the bags seem slightly better no rip.....bonding bags fall apart when i just walk by them in the merchants:mad:.. whys that?

Because you are wearing leather gimp gloves!! apart from that it's hard to produce excellent standards when the material is so sporadic . We still do but maybe it would be easier if the products were more consistent! However it does provide a positive challenge and I like to adapt and overcome.
