So first day trying out the s*p*r*lex, nice to use, but I found that I got quite a bit of tiger striping (something I hate) and was wondering what others thoughts are on this?
Possibly to quick to get on it with the s*p*r*lex?
Or possibly just because it's too new and needs breaking in a little??
I know the Nela is supposed to be ready to go straight out of the box but I'm yet to use something that is....

Thanks.

Hi mate,

If you have a little search on here there is a thread regarding Tiger Stripes.

This is normally down to timings. We have found this to be the main cause when using a SF trowel.

Some guys have said, when you think it's ready, have a coffee then it will be ready :)

Thought as much that I might be on it a bit soon, with it being the first day I haven't got used to the feel of when it's ready as you would with a normal trowel,
Will have a search now, thanks

Doesn't help when Irish gypsum is sending out crap that doesn't set for over 4 hours either

As ryan says timings is a big thing and not using a great deal of water along with keeping it clean ;-)

Stick with it and you will adapt and love it :)

Nela supaflex needs a few days as does the refina.......

Started with nela today....same feel as refina when brand new.

Few days skimming and im sure it will be spot on...just needs a quick run in.

Not too sure if there is a difference to be honest both have the same feel to them.
Happy days !!

Day 2. So, so much better today, due to a combination of not going on it as early, the trowel being run in a little, not applying as much pressure, and using zero water. I just cleaned angles out and then wiped trowel with brush every few strokes.
Troweling was certainly quicker & easier. Think it will be lovely in say another week!
