    Gaps between boards

I'll just repeat what I said earlier.......... If you are joining boards on a joist or rafter you have 44mm divided by 2 which leaves you 22mm for each board. Then you have to leave a gap. Your screw is 4mm with a 6mm head. You would have to believe in miracles. I bet in most houses there is...

    How was this render done?

Couldnt you just have a normal smooth render. Then put the pattern into it with a couple of nails in a plastic trowel or piece of wood. Then paint it so it may be some kind of match to the original stuff?
  12. S

    Gaps between boards

You miss the point. It's the timber the boards are fixed too that is moving ......so the weakest part of the board cracks........the joint.

    Gaps between boards

Only way I could ever think of stopping plasterboards cracking due to joists or rafters moving.

    Gaps between boards

But are cracked ceilings caused by the joints or the wood the boards are on moving because of different humidity levels, settlement or by whats going on upstairs? Usually the wood moving is the cause for cracks. One way of stopping some of it is to board it out with ply first.

    Sound proofing

You need to form a complete barrier of acoustic insulation. Any gaps and you defeat the object. Then you need a new wall. You will lose approx 6"/150mm.

Well what I remember is floors collapsing because the joists were rotten in the walls and some of the biggest fungi I have ever seen. If its a myth I would love to know why we had to knock off all the plaster then?

    Help on this issue

Its not really a big job is it? Looks like just one plasterboard at most. Cant you give it another week before you do anything and it you have to rip it off. ........ Next time stud it out off the chimney breast with 2"x2". Damp cant come through then can it? Or is that not possible?
  29. S

    Who drinks energy drinks?

Ours is water from a lake but has bog sediment in it at minute levels but the water can contain 'trihalomethanes' [THMs]. I think this is when chlorine gets into contact with organic particles from bog rivers/streams/lakes. Cause cancer and disease. Filter says it get 99%.

Tis true kind of. Trouble is body turns carbs to sugar which is bad if too many carbs or easy carbs like processed food. Your body will burn fat as energy which is where the Keto diet comes in so some would say you would be better off having some bacon with your eggs over bread. I just think...
