I think this will come down to what you prefer yourself ..
I'm a bit old school so I would go with lime render/plaster but other will suggest pb cause it's easier ....(maybe they can't float wall either?)
That's Lime plaster ..
Plaster is blown and ideally whole wall needs replastering (make sure it's a lime based plaster )
Your going to need someone experienced with those materials and not just a skim monkey
We got an unbranded version to try it last year
...cost about 150.00 and it's 110v.
Refina do a cordless version but it's really expensive but think it's the one to go for....
Patching with lime finish is going to stand out like a sore thumb
Lime finish needs to be left an open texture (no steel trowel to finish) we use a sponge float and then a sponge to finish
For a patch it Does not blend into surrounding plaster very well because it contains silica sand
Looks like a lath and plaster ceiling
Check it's not lime wash under that paper...
(Chalky to touch)
weight of plaster and water in skim will bring it away if so..
I would doubt it....The French don't use multi finish ....
I skimmed my place with multi ,neighbours thought it was great
didn't believe it was done by trowel
most of their interior work is drylined(even renovations)
they do have some plaster called lucetec 2000 which is horrid stuff
If your removing any damage and replacing with lime that's fine
If the paint is masonry then a limewash would not be a good idea.....
I can't tell from the pic how weathered the wall is .....are you getting any penetrating damp on inside ,
is the render sound ?
Is paint flaking /bubbled?
to be...
Welcome
Can't beat a Marshalltown....stainless steel
Although my lad had just bought a nela carbon steel which seems fine
Got a couple flexi too but Im not sold on em
We bought far too many rolls of shyte scrim from. ....wack,r&j. Ect
Just getting down to last half dozen rolls , have been using spray tack adhesive and works a treat
Looking for some better scrim (happy to pay a bit more )
Any recommendations?
We just used some today on a top landing ceiling (and a sm wall)
Did take four hours though
Goes on fine trowels ok but you need to leave it longer than BG multi
Does rip easy too ...
It just reminds me of using knauf finish 18 years ago ...
Few pics as we went along .....first and second...
