    s*p*r*lex trowel

Surley if the blade is too flexy, you can't feel what's going on, ie, how thick or thin you are laying it on ?. Some months ago I bought a flexy scraper thing, as i had to skim a thin band around the top of a wall, about 6'' above the top of the tiles, not tiled to the ceiling, hence the gap to...

PLASTIC SKIMMING TROWEL thread locked due to trolling

Re: PLASTIC SKIMMING TROWEL No, the paint does not stick to the plaster because the surface is too shiny, no key, so it peels off being the worst case.

If you are hacking the walls off, be carefull and don't damage it. Think also you will find that it is well bonded to the brick work, and hard as foooking rock, the same when taking down plaster lath ceilings, spend a bit of time with a bolster breaking the joint of wall to ceiling.

If you are going to skim it, just make sure it is sealed, don't be surprised if it works. Make sure everything is dry before you skim. :). What ndo you mean it sparks when the steamer is on it ? :-\

    blown

Hi Lucius, ok thanks mate, still lurking about :)
  28. D

    blown

The water in the plaster soaked through the pva, then the original paint, causing it to blow. could also be that the original paint never really adhered to the original plaster.
  29. D

    blown

pva too thin, make it thicker like carping :D also let it dry before you skim if you suspect there could be a problem with the paint, this tends to work, sometimes it does not.

    Skimming a porthole.

3 mill monkey, bit tight on space ! :), but you are correct, this is another way of doing it, but more work invloved, but gives a better job. Doing it this way i would go for about 5 to 7 mill smaller than the porthole :)
  46. D

    Skimming a porthole.

Use a strip of hard board, curved around the inside, but set it 5 mill out on the face. Also pack the hardboard out around the whole strip, so when you skim the face of the wall the skim is pushed into the gap where you have packed it out, this gives you a edge to work to when you come to do the...
