    Plastering cost comparison

When I did my C&G we used box screeds and if you could slide a penny coin behind the straight edge at any point if was a hack off (by hand) and redo... Must have done my wall 100 times. Don't tell me I can't float and set. I could do it with my f**king eyes shut and one arm and one leg.

Don't whatever you do let any f**ker near it who offers to hardwall...that stuff is shite.

    Plastering cost comparison

This is bullsh*t from someone who does both...plasterboarding is much quicker and cleaner. Fixing things to it easy. F**k them off if they bang on about how float and set is better...maybe in the caveman days.

    Vans

Yes mate. don't do hire purchase, lease or any kind of finance it will cost you dearly. Don't pay cash. Try to find a van from a private seller on Vantrader...preferable no VAT. Pay via bank transfer and get a receipt. The van is 100% tax deductible. So lets say you have a resonable year and...

Peeled off 5 layers of wallpaper to weirdo blue walls and a wall of plywood?

If you can't afford a spread (the cheapest spread in the UK) why don't you just line the walls? Get a thick lining paper.

    Plastering stair wall

Honestly thats the flatest f**king wall I've ever seen. I wouldn't even bother with dab adhesive just use Instastick. Anyway it looks quite nice with the shine just leave it as a feature wall.

    Plastering stair wall

Anyway that wall looks flat as f**k and plenty of depth on the string to get a tight dab on with 12.5mm board... Whats the bin man doing in the house...nosey f**ker!
  19. FreeD

    Plastering stair wall

Remove the cill, board and install a new one or cut back the cill and fit a new one on top of the existing (if the frame allows) 5 minute job bud...definitely boarding is the way with this one

    Plastering stair wall

Don't bother with sand and cement...dry line it and get a chippy in after to sort the string out. Done loads like this. Should get that boarded and skimmed in a day no prob.

    Warranty

No the warranty is with the person who paid the bill and is not transferable. Regarding the peeling. I normally use the medium orange power float sponge...it leaves the surface a little rough and I've not had a problem but I've heard many that have some seem to be caused by damp getting behind...

Cleaning gypsum dust off my floorboards?

Mate they are f**ked did you go for cheapest quote? Plaster stains untreated wood permanently. Were the floorboards stained? Sounds full rip out job. Whenever I see floorboards full protection with film and then secondary protection with ply. But you are looking at a hefty bill @ £50 per...

Methods to assess condition of plaster?

Did he do the works himself? If not he is talking bollox...basically he chucked his lads on it 'get it done' and they didn't prepare it properly. If you are going over the old then unless you can be 100% sure it is sound then it is good practice to fully mesh the render/plaster. From the photo...

    New plasterer starting out

You forgot to mention charging a fair rate so not to undercut local spreads. £300 minimum per day. Good luck. When I started out on my own I used to work until 7-8pm on my own making sure everything was perfect. Sometimes later. It was very tough for the first 5 years. Worked weekends to.

    Advice please.

Hard to know without seeing. You might not have any damp issues using bonding (I never use hardwall but didn't realise you can't use it over grit?) Personally I would use rendagrip followed by sand/cement or dry line a solid wall...even better use Insulated plasterboard...less likely to have...
  39. FreeD

    Advice please.

Personally I wouldn't use bonding on brickwork on an external solid wall...especially when you have units in front. Bonding is notorious for wicking moisture. If it's a kitchen you are best of dry lining.
