    Utter dissgrace!

You would of thought if he can afford a 40k+ kitchen he could afford a decent plasterer. Saying that a Florist local to me was plastered by a local pastering firm and the finish is horrendous. Trowel lines everywhere. Even the window reveals look like they have been finished with a brush!!!

Thinking of starting On My Own

I say go for it. I started off doing jobs for friends and family last year and and slowly started getting more work though word of mouth. Since April of this year I have been working on average 3 nights per week after work and a one day at the weekend.

    What has caused this?

I take a keen interest in any plastering/rendering work I come across and noticed this on my way to work last week. It had been rendered about a month ago and the top coat has blown off in several places and i was wondering what would of caused it ???

    Pricing of Chases

Thanks for the replies. Went in at £120 on top. Should be able to fit it in around the other work needed. Maybe to cheap for some but i am still learning and trying to build a reputation for good value for money. Got at least a months worth of work booked in so seems to be working out ok.

    Fat Plasterers

Well there are some big lads on here. Bet you don't have any problems getting paid at the end of each job. Apparently Mark Felix from Lancashire(Worlds Strongest Man Competitor) is a self employed plasterer in the off season. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lnc-5gP0blE&feature=related&pos=0

    lights and radiators

Its a 2 minute job to unscrew/refit switches, sockets and light fittings and makes your job easier/quicker. If the customer is unable to remove the radiator i will remove/refit for them but as already mentioned above you need to be wary of old valves and explain potential problems to the customer.

    Fat Plasterers

    First Rendering Job

Completed the job this week. Was nice to be working outside for a change. Ended up having to do a couple of scratch coats to bring the render level past the brick face. Not as flat as i was hoping to achieve but customer is very happy with the result. How long would it need to be left before...

    How long should it take

Thanks for the replies chaps. I could not of done it any quicker without cutting corners. Thought it would take a full time plasterer 2x8hr days at around £500 to complete. I am confident my speed will improve with more practice though. Southernmonkey you are right there I am getting loads of...

    Tips

Is it normal to recieve tips. I nearly always recieved between 10 and 20% on top of the quoted price. I charge £75 a set for skimming(extra for bonding and boarding) I always make sure every job is left spot on with everything clean and tidy ready for painting.

    How long should it take

Plastered a Kitchen and Cloakroom this weekend for a kitchen fitter i know. Old kitchen ripped out Kitchen and Cloaks 3.7m x 2.5 Background was very uneven and a mixture of gloss paint/old plaster and tile adhesive so required WBA. Ceiling was L & P with 2 lots of plaster board already on so...

    board finish

I find board finish setting time quicker but also much more progressive than multi where i find Multi tends to go off all in one go. Apart from when skimming plaster board I now use board finish on all the smaller jobs to save time waiting around for it to pull in. Also quit smoking in 2000...

    First Rendering Job

Thanks Steve Will use the corner beads as the customer wants clean sharp corners. Will also get a mixer bought. The middle of the bricks protrude between 20 and 30mm from the mortar. Do you think this will require a 2nd Scrath coat to bring everything level before topcoat? I have booked the job...

    Hairline Crack on Chimnet Breast

Reskimmed a living and dining room early April and bumped into the customer today. Board and Skim Price

Been asked to price up board and skim walls and ceiling of a 4m x 4m room with 2 doors and a window. All blown backing plaster has been removed back to the brickwork. Was thinking the following for materials and labour:- 20 x 8'x4' boards-£100 10 bags board adhesive-£60 6 bags of Board...

    What would you have done?

Thanks again for the advice chaps. The paint used was a one coat solid matt. Anyway tested the WBA with the scraper and it was fine so skimmed away. First time i have used the WBA and the plaster setting time seemed more consistent if a little slow. Had no problems with it whatsoever and spoke...

    What would you have done?

Scrim tape at corners when boarding and plastering ceilings only

Sorry for the long title I was just wondering how you guy's go about scrimming up the corners where the walls meet a boarded ceiling when only plastering the ceiling to prevent the scrim being visible on the walls. Do you fix the edge of the scrim tape in line with the walls or cover both...

    Is this Distemper

Did the plastering last weekend then went back in the week to do the painting. Surprised by how many want the painting doing aswell. Anway had no problems with the affected area and the plaster is still on the wall.

    Is this Distemper

Thanks for the feedback :) The property is over a 100 years old and the customer does not want it boarding as the wall in question has a radiator fitted so it would require replumbing after board and skim. The rest of the artex apart from this area is solid so think i am going to scrape and...
