It depends both on the substrate and the type of Microcement you are using.
If the substrate is porous, like a concrete floor or a self levelling compound , it should be no need to use a primer. A good Microcement will stick better directly on them without it. Applying microcement on a primer...

Tadelakt would be the best answer but it is far too complicated to use without years of practice. And the only (and only one) to be used is the tadelakt made from the lime of Marrakech, for it's uniques properties.
Also it take a lot of time to cure and harden depending of it's thickness...

a work I did a long time ago, but which represent the different finishes:
Murals, faux finishes like the Bronze mouldings and the different marble bellow , a distressed plaster wall ( not meant to be glossy to look old )
