    Silicone render basecoat advice

I’ve got another job coming up where it’s pebbledash over thermalite. We’re hacking off and I was planning on doing this same c+g,mesh, retro base system to be painted. Like I say this is what envirowall told me was good enough. Would it be a better idea to do 4mm rend-aid fully meshed, then 15mm...

No mate, just looks like mesh lightly trowelled into a basecoat though at the moment. Not one for the photo album really

    Silicone render basecoat advice

No! 13mm over thermalites, (that’s this job) obviously 6mm over the renderboard jobs I’ve done

    Silicone render basecoat advice

Like I say I’ve done five in the last year over render board when the builder wanted a smooth finish. I didn’t think 15mm of ocr would stand up to the render board. This particular job was a hack off, over thermalite block. I sbr’d the wall as I went, I’ve applied around 6/8mm of c + g now going...

    Silicone render basecoat advice

I was planning on topping with retro as it rubs up nicer than c + g? I’ve done this type of thing over render board five times In the last yesr when they wanted a smooth finish and to my knowledge they are all still fine. Is it not really the right thing to do then using this product as a plain...

I haven’t topped it yet so I could still use ocr couldn’t I now I’ve c+g’d it and meshed it?

Can ocr be used over thermalite blocks? This is why sps envirowall told me to use cement’in c + g.

    Silicone render basecoat advice

That is correct, I am essentially using a thin coat render system as a s + c finish. Rubbed and sponged, then painted.

    Silicone render basecoat advice

Sorry it’s us southerners I suppose. My next pass will be rubbed up and painted to match rest of property so I suppose I just need enough time to get a decent finish on it which is why I asked if sbr would work to my advantage at all. Or if it would f**k me over somehow. Once again thanks for...

    Silicone render basecoat advice

Yes, so that was me asking about doing it on separate days. I think I’ve over complicated the question. Will there be a lot of suction when I do my slurry coat seeing as my first coat has now dried??

    Silicone render basecoat advice

Lol, basically I’ve done the first coat of basecoat yesterday, and put my mesh in. I’m going to be topping it in a couple days. I’ve always done my thin coat render on same day ie first coat, mesh, slurry coat. My question is will there be much suction due to the fact that I’ve given it a few...

    Silicone render basecoat advice

Hi all, new to the 2 day method of basecoating, ie 1st day 1st pass and mesh, 2nd day slurry coat. I’ve just done this method for the first time, 1st pass of cantillana c + g cement’in, notch and mesh on day one, Then going to be topping with retro base and rubbed up for a paintable finish. my...

    Silicone render mesh method.

Ok, so here’s a question. If I don’t go down the sprayer route, can I divide the flank wall up with a movement bead or something to split it into two hits? There’s a big chimney that stops about 1500mm from the ground so I could put a bead in line with the edge of the breast? Or am I just being...

So I can get an airline that would reach up the top of the gable whilst keeping the compresser on the ground? Any links to decent compresser/hopper guns would be much appreciated lads.

Nice one cheers mate, any guys local to Essex that wouldn’t mind me tagging along for a day or two to learn a bit more about machining feel free to hit me up. Free labour an all that!

They are pretty cheap aswell to be fair, may get one and practise in the garage before I go ruining people’s gaffs . Am I right in thinking you don’t necessarily need to keep a wet edge if you spray it aswell? I’m just thinking of the time it will take me to move the compresser down the lifts etc.

Lol, I thought about using an open hopper spray gun?? Mixed reviews on them though, what do you’s lads think about them? I’ve got a whole house to do in March and the flank is about 50m2 so could do with a bit of a push on. And thanks rigsby mate.

So the top of the notched trowel comes into contact with the substrate same principle as tiling? then it’s truly 6mm notches ya mean yeah?

So do you still rule off before you spat or are just spatting it flat mate? I’ve been doing it as you said but ruling off with speedskim, letting it go a bit then sponging it. Did think it was a bit of a waste of time sponging it as I was getting it pretty good just from ruling it off.

So rigsby once you’ve bedded the mesh on day one do you just leave it like that or are you giving it another little go over? Say 4mm total thickness on day one then 2mm tight one day 2?

    Silicone render mesh method

Hi all, new to the forum, well, new to posting (so be kind). I’ve been doing a fair bit of bucket coat lately and I was wondering if I can do the first pass of basecoat and embed the mesh one day and then do the second pass and rub up the following day or does it need to be wet on wet? It would...

Hi all, new to the thread, well new to posting (so be kind). Been doing a fair bit of bucket coat lately and I was wondering whether it is ok or the right thing to do to apply your first pass of basecoat and lay in the mesh one day and then lay your second pass over the top another day? Just to...
