    Parex or Lime Render?

They tried all sorts of ideas but none has worked 100% that I know of. The best idea (I thought) was 4 inch block, polystyrene, cavity and 4 inch block until I saw the poroton blocks. For new builds but there are thousands of houses out there that have to be fixed.

Do you know what cold bridging is???. I do not have to ask spunky.

If you read the thread you will see that snyper and scwarth that said the plaster board was not fitted properly. I agreed with them that the plaster board may or may not be fitted properly but over all it was the plasterer that was at fault. It was later established that no real plasterer...

    Parex or Lime Render?

I was at a presentation where a guy showed that the wall ties in the cavity block houses could cause cold bridging and with the -6 and -7 degree frost we are now getting cold bridging, condensation and moulds are a real concern.

. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=154116&d=1301954740 I never said the plaster board was not fitted properly. The OP had a draft coming in and asked for advice. I said the plastering was not good as there was a gap between the window and the plaster. I do not...

    Parex or Lime Render?

Even a thin bed will cause cold bridging which will result in condensation

    Gable end

You have to excuse ignorance. He is not the shiniest trowel is he. If he was able to read the thread he would know the draft was the fault of the guy that tried to fit the window. He also must be leaving cracked renders as he is scared.

The S***t is really hitting the fan over here lads. The Engineers with no work are looking at court cases to earn a living. If they find one crack in the plaster it is either take it all off or off to court. One court case is worth 6 months work...

    Parex or Lime Render?

When I went to see this job they had all the external walls done and were finishing the internal walls. I was impressed with the German builder. It was like leggo. Every block perfect. As straight as the barrel of a gun. He had a big saw for cutting the blocks and they were cut to the mm...

    Parex or Lime Render?

These are the same as we used in Cork. The secret is in laying them. You must be pretty exact. The builder on our job was German and he knew them from there. They are amassing. In many ways they are the same as rubble stone and lime. We ruled out dot and dab as well. We have used Gutex on...

    hardwall after dpc

I have not seen renderlite over here or limelite and never heard of a dpc coat. That is not to say they are not in use. We are of the belief that all single leaf walls must be able to breath so any material that prevents the wall from breathing is a no no for some here. Do not worry about...

    Parex or Lime Render?

A great tool for the first coat on rubble stone, straw bale etc but a waste of time for the second coat or on even surfaces like heroclytt etc. A complete waste of time if you do not have a 200 litre compressor. We have invented a new machine that will pump the render direct from the mixer...

Water/Fat drip marks showing through paint

Firstly I have not done skimming for 25 years. We had this problem here where every thing is skimmed with gypsum and some guys started finishing gypsum in one coat. The finishes were polished (glazed we call it) and condensation formed on the glazed areas causing the paint to fall off and...

    Board finish

A funny question for someone claiming to be a plasterer????. Over here we always put a tape where a plaster board meets timber or PVC. I have to log out now but I will be back again tomorrow evening. Good night all

You must be blind as well. Otherwise you would see that there was not even one coat on because there is a gap between the velux and where the plaster ends that a mouse could get in.

    Board finish

I had wondered about your name. If you read the posts you would know i only do lime plastering and also on that thread if you read it you would see what architects have written about moulds etc. Perhaps you are more qualified than architects to speak on such matters but somehow I doubt it...

I would sit on a bridge begging before I would skim for £2 a meter. We had the one or 2 coat debate here after it was found that 1 coat skims were glazed and condensation formed there and then mould grew. We are also at the suing stage here and I have heard that a plastering contractor is...

    Parex or Lime Render?

The guy that owned the house was worried about cold bridging etc etc and wanted lime plaster. He had a computer on his phone and was the type of guy that would try to take your trowel to show you how to do it (if you know the type). I get paid from the neck down and only I do a lot of work for...

Well Spunky. I am a grandfather with 4 rendering jobs, 1 guetex inside plastering job, and just got a hemp/lime insulation inside job to do this summer. The only reason I am working is to teach the father of my grand daughter lime plastering. We also have a small house to build for a friend...

We were asked to price a poroton block rendering job in Cork last year. I did a lot of research here on it but found no good finish on finished houses.. Cement plaster is out because those blocks must breath. . One guy tried a clay render that fell off. Another guy was happy with what he...
