Not forgetting his sidekick Rob and fuelled by Burger King!
Thanks guys, ceiling is being painted Monday but should be a lot easier for our painter than the bedrooms were
We have removed a wall between the kitchen and hallway/lounge and found that with there being some old tiles laid in the hallway/lounge it means the floor in the kitchen is a couple mm lower. We don't particularly want to remove the tiles and are planning on laying the new floor on top of these...
totally agree and will be making sure I have everything in writing next time...although in this case i was more than happy to pay what he quoted, just not the extra £300 he tried to charge....still I think it may have been an honest mistake...I hope :RpS_unsure:
hmmm, its only a flat, very boxy, so no funny corner and with 2.4m high ceiling, no obstructions and we rolled all the carpets up! piece of piss job! Oh well, could have been a lot worse!
do any of you esteemed professionals work in and around wimbledon who would be interested in my hallway ceiling? although i am not sure it is the most attractive job...also have a kitchen floor which needs screeding.
i pay cash :RpS_laugh: hahahaa (at least i make myself laugh)
i think they were all distemper....but some took and some didnt, he said he PVA'ed it before although from googling it that can work but is not necessarily foolproof. It is odd that some took and some didnt.
He suggested we use thistle bond it on the hallway but said it is hit and miss and may...
yup - could have been a lot worse! but thankful for the advice on here. in my defence, we didnt pick him at random as he had some good reviews on my hammer....however just notice he profile has been deleted in the last day or so :S very odd!
what do decent plasterers generally charge per sq meter?
agree - he is a t**t and i naively thought that as it hasnt come down by this morning it woudl stay up (hopefully it will). the ceiling which did bubble, bubbled in 10 mins according to him so the fact the rest hasnt is promising...no?
wow - thanks for all the replies, for some reason i stopped getting the alerts so didn't see most of these.
firstly, i understand you have only heard my point of view but i have given the facts and i have dealt with many tradesman from myhammer in the past few weeks and have had absolutely no...
Agreed, but then you should let your client know upfront and not phone them at 15:30 when they are working and tell them to come back and pay you now when no such agreement was ever discussed....javol!
i can remember the exact costs, they are at home but I think it is about £500 for what he has done and maybe £150 for the ceiling he has "left".
Going to phone him now and say sorry I cant leave work early to come pay you at the last minute and banks have closed anyway. I will check job when...
the problem is...he has done the lounge ceiling and a bedroom ceiling....so i need to pay for them then...but what if they fall down? this is why i think he is pushing for the cash!
found him on myhammer but had a funny feeling and went against my gut which was a mistake!
Thanks Danny - one note on that, he was aware of the distemper as I had never even heard about it until he came round to quote the job and told us that it was there :) But he thought he could get around it.
As I say I have no problem that he couldn't do it, just why change his tune about...
yep - said he would be there all day and into the evening probably, then at 3pm i get a call saying its all done and he has had to leave about a quarter of the job unfinished due to distemper....which seems remarkably quick
his basic price was £15 per sq. metre + £45 for materials. most of it was ceiling and then some walls, so about £600 worth I reckon, as you say, I reckon the rest will probably come down sometime.....
haha - yes wish it was that simples :)
just don't like it when people try pressure you into things and don't particularly want to get on someones bad side when he is home alone in my house!
hi,
we had a plasterer in today, we agreed costs up front and payment method etc was never mentioned. he has now called me to say he had issues with the ceiling having distemper on it, which i understand is a pain to skim over. he said half the house has taken the plaster and the other half it...
