Worked today 1st Saturday this year.
But it was for brother in law, the mother in law asked me last week if i could do some plastering on his kitchen as he'd had 3 quotes & the cheapest was £100 & they thought it was too much ???
She told me the job was skim 1wall bit of patching on another wall & repair water damaged ceiling it was less than half a metre of damage. I said ok ill pop & do it saturday morn for them.
They asked me to come round at 10am
So anyway walks in & there's 4 walls to skim 1 window with reveals 1 door with reveals plus ceiling to sort out lights to take down 2 vents on wall etc. I said how much was that quote you had they said £100 i said it's more like £200 for the day that includes materials. I said I don't know how he could make any money doing it for that much once you take off materials diesel etc.
But i said i'll do it for you at family rates :(

Found out the quote they had was off a website
Mybuilder.com had a look when I got home.

Look at this :D

How do these people do it? £100 minus 20% = £80 minus materials, dont seem do able ??? they gotta be doing cash and surley being broadcast over the interweb its not a good idea :-\

A lot quote these prices then when they turn up to do it , they say "oooh more than i thought etc and bump up the price " classic , nine times outa ten the customer would just say ok

I agree lets have less of the "i wonder if the local taxman knows".
Quotes are a joke but all his feedback is very good and if he is making a bit extra at the weekends good luck to him.

i never said to grass,i just said i wonder if the tax man knows , i have had lads who do work weekends which i dont give a fcuk but when they nick materails then thats out of order.

MY builder needs to be SHUT DOWN it does NO good for the industry or REAL tradesmen. It only invites poor workmanship/slave labour/migrant monopolising/adds to the problem of recession in the worst hit sector and says to me looking at the prices "you aint worth jack, plasterer/bricky/chippy whatever you are you and your skills are for bums and aint worth pittance i will pay what i say you punk now lick my boots clean slave"...... And thats what I think about those web sites. It happened in printing this "bid down" culture and it claimed more business than the recession itself.....
