Hey guys,
I've had an absolute mare with rendering this last year. My house is a 1930s brick built which had a terolean finish when I moved in a few years ago. It had a single storey extension on the back and around a year back it started leaking. Turned out to be the render cracking and water running in behind (no cavity tray when done!).
I had the whole house chipped off and fine downed last September which did cure this but the finish was terrible. He missed off beads in some places, the beads that were on weren't level or straight and he used KH1 mono on the front as a dash receiver to name just a few things. We ended up falling out and he stormed off leaving it unfinished after having over £3k off me. All the front reveals weren't done and a few other bits.
A few months later places started to blow quite badly so I booked with another renderer who's work I've seen and came highly recommended back in Jan to start in April. He did lots of work for my other half between Jan and April but then come April he pushed me back 7 weeks. Then 6 weeks later told me he could no longer fit me in leaving me without anyone.
I since found another renderer who started a few weeks ago. He seems much more thorough and has really paid attention to beading etc. On chipping the old work off he's pretty sure there was no SBR or suction control used at all which explains the blowing I guess.
He's rendagripped the entire hacked off property, scratched and now topcoated using 5.1.1 where the last bloke didn't use lime at all. He has used Jewsons building sand which I mentioned right at the start I wasn't sure about but he assured me he always uses it. I have a friend who's also a renderer around here (but waaay to busy to do mine) and on checking with him he said that in this area he also uses building sand so not to worry.
All seems to have gone well bar the front of the house which originally looked great, but now has developed (after around a week) quite a lot of what I guess are shrinkage cracks? They definitely weren't there before the weekend, but the wall is north facing and was dry a few days before the super hot weather we just had. I misted the wall down a few times after he'd done it last week.
What is the best way to deal with this? A couple seem a little hollow behind but most don't. Is this just a fill witj paint job or do I need to get him to do something?
He has said he thinks they're fine but it just seems a little crap to have cracks in brand new render. My double garage didn't crack at all in fine down years back.
My only other question is that on the front of the house he's put stop beads down over the lead but they're a good inch proud due to the thickness of the original terolean which was cracking the bricks before coming off in this area. The beads are floating so I can put my fingers up behind them about an inch from where they hang down and proud. Also above the back door the bead is down a lot so is kinda hollow (last pic)
Should I get him to fill up behind these with render? He's a really nice bloke and we really get on I'd just like a second opinion on these bits!
Thanks guys and sorry for the long first post!
