i got called in on a rendering job last thursday.
To help a mate out as it was a nice sized job now what im struggling to get my head round is the mix he is useing .
Its on concrete blocks didnt even wet it first the mix is 6:1:1 scrach/6:1:1 top coat ???
now we have scrached 98% of it as the scaffold was in the way along with ha fence too.
toped both the frunt and back wetted the scrach coat and layed it on the used a spat too flaten it in didnt even use a straight edge??
its looking really good
BUT what are the come backs of not wetting the blocks first and using the same mix on both coats??
as i have allwase use a weeker mix top coat (how i was talt too)

Is pic 5 & 6 the finished article? Have to be carefull with concrete blocks dont always need waterproofer in scratch especialy in winter as you could wait all night for it to go of.

i dint get any pics of it sponged up yet but i will on monday
tell me about the water proofer mate siting there like a plum waiting for it too go off just hanging about
id cleaned up packed up the mixer tools we didnt need went round cleaned the brick work sweaped up
took down some scaffold as it was in the way for the scrach coat
loaded out for monday and it still wasnt ready
only got the two sides too do next week then off too do some skimming for him then some more rendering :RpS_cursing:

dont wet concrete blocks down either before scratch as luc says very little wp on them blocks there is no suction at all from em

using plastering sand opc and lime water proofer and feb mix
used a tilers sponge and a jumbo spunge
if the work was there id render all the time love it

what do you think would happen if you did the sides all in one day with out leaving the scratch coat what suction, do you have on them blocks.

Have done it Henry, there is very little suction on concrete blocks the only prob doing scratch and top same day is that the blockwork joints seem to grin through more.

Yer that could happen but should dry out if we was doing the internal blocks we would slap it on all in one go.

So would i but i generaly lay internal blocks in a garage to face standard and joint them up.

finished it tuesday about 1oclock yer its looking sweet nice creamy mix and colour isfrom the lime.
6:1:1 dash of fedmix&waterpoofer
we done that job in 4 days
iv got 3 more days skimming for him them we got anuther rendering job to start

more pics to come
