Some of you are aware that i am looking at refresing my skills and hopefully move into the trade eventually but before i make too big an investment i was wondering what the average that can be earned in a week/ month or a year, you don't need to be specific about your own earnings i'm just looking at what the average in your opinion is (if i believe everything i read then £1200 a week is possible) pm me if you would rather respond this way, basically i earn £28,000 a year before tax at moment and would like to know if this is feasible to be earned in this trade before making too much of a financial committment or learning with someone for no money, new look site looks great Danny

if youre just starting youll be lucky to earn 300 per week and not be bombed of site .........honestly mate youre work needs to be spotless .......this is why were called plasterers ..........and a good one will earn a grand a week because there happy with his work to keep him on site and he's got enough experience to allow him to work fast

stay with your 28 grand mte its tough out there even 4 20 year guys wait till things pick up before riskin that type of cash ;)

totally agree

lucky with 300 every two weeks lately theres no work out there bud was chocker this time last year

if your earning 28k a year and its a secure job you'd be a fool to jack it in considering the current climate.

A decent plaster will earn between £800 and £1100 a week working sensible 5 day weeks. Figures over this can be earned but are rare and you've got to accept a certain amount of the fisherman theory when you hear them (its always a bigger fish when they tell you and you dont know what they went through to get it)

Id stick with what your doing now £28K aint the end of the world is it, just keep your hand in doing little foreigners at weekend and that, think about it in 12months time see if its right then

Thanks for this guys at least i now know a realistic figure. My situation is that i work as a supervisor in a factory at moment supplying the automotive industry and things are dead at the moment and not likely to pick up in the next 12 months if were still here and the opportunity has arisen for me to take my redundancy and walk away with a fairly decent sum or i could stay and risk still being made redundant and getting next to nothing. I'm realistic enough to realise i won't earn anywhere near a time served plastere would and it will all come with experience which is why i could take my redundancy now and have some cash behind me whilst gaining experience either working with a plasterer or doing some freebies for experience

you'll have a job getting in with a plasterer at the moment till things pick up. and you'll have to make sure your redundancy money will keep you going for long enough, probs best to get another job and plaster on the weekends maybe?

what do you guys do when the work is slack as it sounds as though it is now, are you entitled to benefits or what? and would you say this trade has been hit hardest or are all the trades suffering, suspect brikies having a worser time

Cant speak for the rest but i cant get the dole because of being self employed and the wife working part time which is a bit s**t saying iv always paid my tax and stamps makes you wonder why you pay them.just have to spend the pennys more carefully now mate they reckon its going to get worse ::) if i didnt have some saving id be fooked lad
