Acoustic insulation

Is it worth the extra money for it? Doing my ceilings in soundbloc and wondering if it's worthwhile paying the extra to put acoustic insulation in instead of normal stuff. Wife's a light sleeper and tv will be directly below bed.

Would be cheaper to turn the TV off when you went to bed, would save electric as well
:lol::risas2:

Sorry I couldn't resist!

Haven't used acoustic insulation
Used the sound boards with varying degrees of success
I feel sorry for the person putting the sound boards on the ceiling!!!!

She goes to bed early and I stay up and watch porn n s**t.

I'm putting the soundbloc up, it's only 12.5mm so why would it be a problem?

Stu I think the Rockwool sl920 (I think is the code it might of changed now) is good soundbloc insulation with bg soundbloc plasterboard is worthwhile and won't cost to much the bars are worth putting up as well to help kill sound.. I be honest I not done much sound block so my knowledge is limited but do know you have to follow the system guidelines to a t to kill the most sound.
Also worth a look at the roomsmadeforyou floor sound block system if you can drop that down on the floor upstairs it is very good sound block system

Well I have done them with just the insulation and boards but no bars or rubbers @gps and you still hear sound so imo if you not going to do properly then don't bother just put your headphones on when watching playboy or whatever else you watch

I think the sound boards are around twice as heavy
The specs book says a 12.5mm normal board weighs 8.5kg but I'm not sure if that's right

I know the 12.5mm sound boards is 25kg and they feel heavier!!

Make sure they are screwed securely!

Can't, if she comes down to check on me I'll no hear her and she'll burst in mid stroke

Steel channels that help with sound reduction buddy worth it trust me only two/three quid a length (3m) put in every 3/400mm and like above use a sound bloc insulation there's loads of diff brands so speak to do ever you buy from but in new build its double board to meet spec
Googled it and going to go with that, not going to double sheet as ceiling low enough

For the complete system to achieve maximum noise reduction you should always seal the edges with acoustic sealant (white book says so and is on every drawing) but to be honest hardly anyone ever uses it or has seen it it comes in sausage form or in a mastic tube it's white tube with blue on it be cheaper to move your to to the other end of room surely ;)

At least 100mm in there as well stuart don't be a tight arse and put 50mm we know what you are like ..
I put 150mm in my castle
Sound travels through all directions
:musculoso:

This is best s**t on market stu 100mm and a 50mm on top...unless anyone else can suggest better...might not be the cheapest but not beaten on performance..I once used a sig version as it was cheaper I had to rip it all out and redo it was useless...defo go 150mm if possible bro
I hate the knuagh earth batts next job is rock wool fo sure
