I've got a property where customer wants acrylic over existing sand/cement which is painted. Paint is sound, just have to remove some Galv beads and replace with stainless.

Its a large property, do i need to put anything over paint first before acylic?

Does it need beads?

Can it be applied by hand?

What product would you recommend? appx price per square mtr for mats?

Thanks

I would use a primer from where youll be buying your acrylic or silocone thin coat from and I would use pvc beads which are cheaper you can go straight over the existing beads if theyre ok ,put the gear on by hand rub up with plastic trowel,I dont know how big the job is but say its just the front of a semi bearing in mind your replacing beads there is going to be a bit of patching it would be a2 day 3 tub of thin coat should be plenty, prime what u can and come back when the patching is dry to top it

sounds like you dont have a clue about it,
you have no experience of acrylics and your going to tackle a job like this?

there are plenty of systems that will go over painted render if it is sound, do a bit of a search on here for a bit of info, but i wouldnt be tackling it if i didnt know what i was doing to be fair.

Maybe you want to do it for me m8? I'm happy to sit at home on 10% while you are grafting?

Cheers efc can you recommend any manufacturers?

if you intend to use acrylic texture only over an existing render to basically tidy up the finish then DO NOT use beads, beads are for use with prep/base coats only not acrylic texture it will not adhere beads or cover them.

you will be looking between 50 and 60 quid for a tub of 1.5mm texture that covers about 10 - 12 m2 if you are putting it on tight enough (1.5mm texture = 1.5mm thick coat)

Would you replace the rusty galv beads first?

Acrylic texture is purely a cosmetic and protective surface finish, if you need to remove rusty beads (good ideA) you need to allow for making good first with basecoat or sand and cement before acrylic will go over it

Ok thanks, will remove otherwise render is completely sound. I'm based in Bristol, but this job is in Somerset. Why?

Fair play to the bloke looks like hes got a machine now doing EWI and Acrylics. Only down the road from me might give a shout for this one. Cheers for that lads.

These acrylics claim to be self cleaning can any1 confirm this especially with the lighter colours they don't go like krend do they look sh*t after 2 years? How much longer is it going to last than a good paint job?

Also what are they like applying by hand straight forward? anything to watch out for?

I have used power walls sand finish which is an acrylic thin coat, first Job was ten years or more ago and still looking very clean and it's white done others as well and they are the same

dude they are a nightmare even with plenty of experiance. i`d seriously recommend you do a test panel before you start.whatever this gear touches it doesn`t come off so make sure you have everything well taped up. its a very tight coat so make sure you get it even for an even texture.and one drop of water hits it you`ll be lookin at a stain for the rest of your days. good luck.

I'm starting from scratch over sound render. I swear it said on the WBS site if it got damaged it could be patched. Which is advantage over krend. A m i wrong in thinking that?

If you've not done thincoat before, then i would suggest tagging along with someone who knows what they're doing. It's an expensive product to waste.

Also, how many of you are going to be applying it? If your a 1+1 gang you'll struggle on anything bigger than a postage stamp

Ok thanks guys I appreciate advice. So how many spreads/labourers will I need for bigger areas, whats the process?

From the videos i've seen on youtube it looks like lads are applying it with normal trowel. At what stage do you use the swiss trowel?

Also how long have you got before you have to float it, again on youtube looks like its floated straight away?

is the acrylic coloured ? if its not getting a coat of paint on it after id get some other guys to help out we use loads of acrylic out here in oz and its the joins you have to watch if they dry you wil see them 2 story drops you want 4 guys also its fricken hard to patch same as mono if the damage is bad enough better to re-coat the whole wall or cut a join somewhere

because thats a self cleaning paint most acrylics are not self cleaning only one i know is sto lotus and that could be the paint oh b*ll***s who gives a fcuk anyway
