Recently my kitchen ceiling fell in and we have replaced it with a new ceiling. However the rest of the house has the ceiling fixed by the old horsehair (that is what it looks like) plaster stapping over the rafters onto the ceiling. The house is around 40 years old.

I have checked in teh roof and found that many of the strappings have now broken and I would like to replace then. Can someone tell me where I can purchase this product if it still exists. If it doesn't then what can I use as a replacement.

I have been advised that I cannot just use plasterboard screws into the ceiling as they will just pull through if all the other strappings break.

Any advice / suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Either rip out old lath and plaster and plasterboard and skim (very messy) or overboard and skim. Whoever told you not to board are talkin out their arse.

overboarding involves locating the joists to screw plasterboard into, not the lath or the 'strapping' you refer to.

Use 75mm plasterboard screws after locating the joists. They will securely hold and pull up any sagging laths and lime plaster.
