Recently bought a house and decided to carry out a full refurb, gutted the house out and got to work knocking out walls, changing a lot to really update it.

I have skimmed every ceiling in the house as all were artex which was a lot of hard work (it's a decent sized 3 bed semi).

The artex in the dinning and living room was the thickest (looked like whoever put it on used to decorate birthday cakes for a living - it was an absolute knightmare to do). All the hardwork is done and I am really happy with the finish apart from 2 which have imperfections.

I have attempted to face fill and used high opacity matt paint but once the lights are on it at night I can still see the imperfections and I simply can't deal with it. I am not sure if air pockets could have caused what I can see as it doesn't appear to be marks I've done and certainly didn't look like that straight after it was done.

The depth of the artex underneath is very thick and despite having built up the plaster about 3 layers thick I think it maybe the pattern underneath slightly showing in places.

Has anyone got any suggestions or know of any products that might help get these imperfections out?

It's all been primed / sealed and miss coated.

I am thinking of uni bonding again tonight and re-skimming.

Cheers

there you go mate, i reckon youve just answered your own question....do it again...
you dont mention if youre an experienced plasterer or a novice though, but if youre confident skimming over board and can achieve a good standard theres no reason why you shouldnt be able to do it on new plaster... just remember to control your suction correctly...also be aware of the weight youre adding to the ceiling/artex bond will it hold?
begs the thought that if you 'gutted' the house maybe the best thing to do would have been drop the ceilings and reboard...but hindsight is wonderful!! live and learn eh?
good luck

another way is to just use 'easy fill' - made by b.gysum, good stuff, dries in about 10 mins, then sand it...

I'll check out the product you mention. I used to plaster all the time in my job but do less these days (for my company anyway! get a contrator to do it!! :->)

I have heard some stories of using all sorts of techniques like wallpaper paste mixed with plaster and that's the reason I ended up on here really. Just trying to find out and read up on anything that's new to the scene

wallpaper paste + skim! new one on me mate..how does that work then??

someone i was speaking to went on a course and said that now you can mix wallpaper paste with plaster???

it sounds like it's shrank mate if you've skimmed it i'd worry if you put bonding over it and the patterns still showing through
never heard of wallpaper paste i think someones on the wind up ::)
if you want it too hang around you could always keep boiling a kettle, keeps the room nice and humid ;)

i thought it was the labourer who was supposed to keep boiling the kettle??

don't be silly seggs there far too busy on the phone :-?
