Hello
This is my first time on this forum and I am in need of some advice from professionals. Although I am DIYer I know my limits and I will always ask professionals if I feel that it is beyond me and quite frankly plastering is way beyond me, hence the need for advice. So my question is this:
Some years ago in the early 00's I had my living room ceiling artex, not with a stipple but more of a swirl (I know, but it was the fashion at the time). I am now going to re-decorate my living room and I woudl like to cover up the artex and have a smooth ceiling. As its professional job I have called in a plasterer to quote me for the job, however I am a little confused as to what he has said to do. Instrad of skimmin over the artex he wants to overboard and then skim. his reason is that if he skims just over the artex he cannot qurratnee that the plaster wont fall off due to weight. This will make my ceiling slightly lower, which I can get away with.
I have researched products that when applied can enable the Artex to just scrap off and I was wondering if these products actually work.
Is what my plasterer is suggesting the correct way to cover up old Artex or are there other ways including using products that enable to Artex to be scrapped off.
Some advice would be helpful. As I said I have no problems if this is the way but I just wanted to check. Thank you for your advice.
