Advice on rendered wall

Hi all,

We recently had our whole house rendered and on the whole it’s a good job however the only gripe we have is that a) the chap mixed batches and didn’t realise that might be an issue (even though it’s on Weber’s website as a technical note) and more importantly it looks pretty uneven in mid day light and when the lights on in the evening.

Now I’m not wanting to be unfair to the guy because on the whole he’s worked hard to do the entire house but we’re not really happy with the finish on this gable wall as it’s the wall that faces the main road as you approach the house. Soda law it’s come out like this. :-(

Without being overly critical is this the kind of finish to expect or is this not a great job? In other lights it’s not really noticeable to be fair, only mid day (2pm ish) and when the light comes on. FYI it’s as bad in the afternoon light as shown here.

Put a long level on most render jobs and it won't be level on external work. Am not saying its good work. Could be a s**t scaffolding they where on to thight ect. Its just to easy on here to jump in and say its s**t. Especially with a light shining up it.
It would be level on mine!

I had a old boy other week I got there in the morning and I caught him with his level out on scaffold and he was going to town. It was scratch coat but I always make sure it's bang on! I said did you find anything bud :ROFLMAO: he was like sorry I know you haven't finished yet but it's all good! Sorry I'm a bit of a perfectionist he said:ROFLMAO: he was a f**k**g nobjocky he was touching my walls before I was finished?! I said can you not do that please felt good.

Ha some funny comments! Yeah we’re pretty deflated tbh. We haven’t told the guy yet because we didn’t want to feel like we were being unreasonable. At certain times it looks fine (apart from the colour match issue near the window because he didn’t realise mixing batches wasn’t recommended). It looks pretty bad at 12-1. Here’s a picture when the light is more sympathetic.

I’ll try to take some pictures at the weekend. It’s gutting to be honest because this is the one wall you see when you approach the house from the road (it’s also how you approach from the driveway and what you see from the road) so this is pretty much what we’ll see most of the winter when I come home from work.

Can anyone advise what we could do to fix it apart from rip it off?

U must be on jobs a lot better built than my jobs. Had 6 reveals on one lift of scaffolding. All different margins. Was 50mm difference on some. Would have took 2 scratch coats and a good top coat to get it all right. Builder would not pay for the labour and materials. And tbh I would not blame him. Got it looking good. Flat but not level. Job looks perfect. If it was internal we would have had to get it level for kitchens and what not. But it was dot and dab.

Appreciate all the constructive feedback though.

Here’s the view from the road (approximately 60-70ft)

Thanks Clemo. I wish moving the light was that simple. It’s where we walk up to the house and steps.

Would it be possible to double bead that wall and start again rather than ripping it all off? If we ripped off what was there I guess there’s a big risk of damaging the other wall attached to the bead?

Take the f**k**g light off. I drive past render all the time sane roads everyday at different times. Most of the time job looks fine and good but if you drive past at the right time with glancing light you could fault every f**k**g house.
Render specialists just done a fancy block of flats near me. Job looks smart but I managed to see it in glancing light and I could still find fault. And them lads do it day in day out. But some big dicks on here are perfect

Never work for an engineer then.

I put a railway sleeper patio down for one once. The sleepers were all bent. I put the corners in perfect but it looked all wrong so I beat it til it looked right and f**k the levels.

That weekend he had his wife out holding the laser level pole and rang me to say 12mm out in the bottom right hand corner.

Managing to find fault is very different to what's been done to this guy's house. It's impossible to miss those faults. Let's be honest its a bloody s**t job. You would hope whoever did his house was a render specialist aswell, as that's the job he was hired to do. I'd be absolutely gutted if I'd paid good money for that

It's a really bad job, cheapest quickest way is to go over the the top by someone that's a renderer and get them to put you some stop beads at damp this time to

The light will make render look s**t 99% of the time. Even light down glass makes it look s**t. If its looking ok when the lights not down it. It should be ok. The light can be a c**t especially around windows where there is a lot of beads used.
That’s poor the light shows most render up but that’s a new level

I agree but I'll always try to side with the tradesman. I know loads of plasterers that render as well but I wouldn't call them specialist. Specialist to me is someone who just does bagged renders and has machines.

Customer said he was a decent guy obviously trying his best to do a good job. It's very easy to sit behind a screen and slate the f**k out of people. At least give the guy a chance to rectify it. The picture in daylight doesn't look bad but I'm only looking at it on a mobile screen
