elo spreads i must confess i am one of the fellows who has been covering ceilings and the occasional wall with artex. go also do a fair amount of skimming over artex using multi as well as coving .used to work on sites up until 8 years ago .just found out i need a cscs card to prove i am able to do it. But i aint intrested in the rendering or screeding side of the plastering craft ,so any advice on getting card be appreciated .because i know that 1 day there will be sites again [1 day] basicly i just want card to go board finishing ,coving etc.cheers lads

that wont work for much longer rich i heard that the likes of shepards, carrillion an balfor beaty etc.... are goin to start insiting on trades have the nvq cards

i think the government said they wanted everyone qualified to a nvq standard by 2010, dunno what thats gonna do the nvq is a joke!

agreed merlin the thing is it isnt law to have a cscs if your working on site i do sort of agree with it though for the health an saftey side of things as there are some proper numptys out there seen a lad get twatted on the head by a brick when he put his head in a rubbish shoot to check no one else was using it ??? ???

I would have loved to have seen that!.

i agree there should be a h&s test on site but lets face it if you fail the cscs h&s test you shouldnt be aloud out......... let alone on building site!

i can vouch for this ;) they have to be below grade C, so make out your a thicko (like me) and your £640 better off! :D schwing!

Not really wishing to alienate myself here, but this is where this namby pamby politically correct country is all wrong. If you are a complete re***d, f**k up at school, and breed like a rabbit, the government will pay for you to go on any course you want to, house and feed you, and probably wipe your arse if you ask nicely. If you have half a brain, go to work, pay your taxes etc, you get f**k all.
Who's the C**t?

i hear you man, my cousin never worked a day in his life got a s**t hot apartment all paid for on housing benefits he's just been sent to prison for 6 months but the flat is safe as the housing will pay for it for up to 13 weeks while he serves his time

Since the corporate manslaughter law came in, it is law to have a cscs card to be allowed to work on a construction site. You might get a smaller developer building a couple of houses letting you on site and ignoring the law, but if somebody had an accident and wanted a claim the finger would point at the person letting an un qualified on site.

It's a pity they don't check to see if they have any insurance mate, that should be the first thing they check before they let any body on a site, or any job for that matter

there are some firms wont pay you if you dont have public liability Dancor acoustics and CLM are 2 ive worked for

now thats going too far..........................;)

theres plenty of big drylining firms that have chancers on for them, i worked for yrs for Horburys and they were full of them

Before i came to Spain from the U.K. the Russians & Ukranians who are not in the EEC had no problem getting passports, driving licences from legit EEC countries ive even seen dodgy CIS tax cards so i wouldnt think it would be very difficult to get one of these though i except their maybe problems if an accident was to occur.I have no intention of going back on site but you can never say never but at 53 years of age i would find it an insult to be assesed by someone maybe lesser than me and have to pay for it, what happened to the old way of taking a bloke on give him to tea time and if hese no good show him the gates.
Lucius.

tony m sorry mate but i aint no russian ukraine or dumb t**t when i worked on sites i had full public insurance ,sort of sites i worked on you had to .mainly fixing cove and cornicing had to learn how to skim ceilings to make em straight after spreads who couldnt level had worked there magic.this was in 89 -2002 previous to that i worked for a fella who was a well good ceiling contractor specialising in fibrous plaster and panelled ceilings for 4 years .i also dont claim no benifits ,never had to. unfortuantly for me there wasnt all this city&guilds and nvq in my trade then ,you just worked for the boss learnt the trade then went on as a subbie then start taking on your own jobs.much like it should be today.so mate have you got any idea on my question.cheers

tex none of the russian/benefits/numpty was aimed at you your thread just got a bit off topic, there is a sticky thread danny has put up in regards to free nvq 2 assesment this may be beneficial to you??

Ye don't tex it personally mate , were not meant for you , he a nice bloke when you get to know him and he takes his teeth out to get a better seal ;D ;D

cheers iam just trying to get myself ready for when ive got to get all this cscs nvq stuff intime .me 19 year son has got all his as a brickie, never even been on a site kin ell .so i just figure in 2 years time theres going to be loads of highly trained qualified tradesmen who aint got a clue what to do. mmm i think loadsamoney on his way back ..

tex it all said:

If I were you, and had experience of fibrous plastering, i'd get assessed for that and have that put on my card.
