Got a bit of a head scratching render job on that started straight forward but has got a bit complicated.
It's a double extension that the customer wants finishing in sand and cement smooth/flat and the existing render needs sorting as its looking a bit shite. The existing house is sand and cement rendered with timber panels across it that have been pulled off and left rusty nails dotted all over the place.
Any suggestions to stop the rust coming through and staining the finish?
The exiting is one coated, solid and fairly thin so would be an absolute pig to break off without making an almighty mess of the blockwork.
I'm thinking of coating the existing with a polymer base coat and pinning with mesh, scratching the base coat then topping with a sand and cement finish to tie in with the extension.
Can anyone see a problem with doing this? The finish will be thicker than the base but the base is pinned mechanically to the substrate.
Thanks muchly!
