quoted abloke £240to skim his living room 4x4 plus lid. now this is a days work for me and mi lil bro give £60 for mixing. this is labour only. hes told me he got sum1 cuming on monday to do it for a ton

Well being from not far from yourself im afraid to say thats the way it has gone in the north west. The money people are doing work for is shocking. These idiots are also leaving the work to at least a reasonable standard and some to a good standard for anything from £50 a day. As I have mentioned before on here I now dont quote to do work for people that have not had work done by me before or know someone that has as its a waste time and money giong to look. I lowered my prices on domestic and in the end was just looking to earn about £100 a day for new customers but was getting laughed at and called a thief. So now have gone back on site getting a s**t m2 rate but I just see it now as regular work and only 5 mins from my house, then just fit it any repeat customers domestic around that.

For skimming they range between £1.60 to £2.00, I may be wrong but i dont know of anybody that is paying any more than £2 dont know of any prices for float and skim as have not heard of any but i know there if firms paying £3.25 a metre finished work on new build houses, so boad, dab, skim.

i know things may be hard but that is ridiculous £100 to skim a room, maybe in 1975.Anyone taking that on at that price needs certifying i could"nt do it knocking me nuts off and taking the piss out myself at the same time, and i find it shameful that people are exploiting craftsmen during these times.Unfortunately it is an industry that has been deliberately messed up.You dont see solicitors etc cutting each others throats they are as tight as a drum, and make enough to ride out tough times, and above all stick together.I would rather clean windows and get a fair pay than sell my craft cheap regardless that someone will,i have no argument with the poor sod who is obviously forced into such a desperate corner but as i say shame on those exploiting.

flippin eck Nisus, you better return most of that bag of sand. I t looks like I could have got those 10 Sq/M done for less than that £950. You said skimming one coat on to board was an art?

Don't listen to em on here mate.
There only joking about rates ::)
And a price is a price after all ;)

You said you wouldn't mention the onecoating again :(
I won't do it this week mate promise :-[

I'm not too dear mate you have to pay top dollar to work alongside someone like me ;D
And is that cash for the next job 8)

You need to sort a pic out JP cause 5 people have pm'd me now saying that i am you ??? :'(
It looks like I'm talking to me fcukin self ;D

there's only 1 J Pole and sons in the west midlands, everything is priced in multiples of £1K. They'll know when they've had J Pole and sons in town.... the bank account will be empty but they'll be basking in marble finish skim and coving to die for. £5K might be dear for a front room re-skim but it'll keep them out of the pub.

People will pay for quality mate that's why we are busy.
Imagine working for a ton a day :o :o
That wouldn't even pay for the petrol in your motor when we go to the cafe in style 8)
