Hi, I have been thinking of adding a new trade to my bag of tricks,
what do you guy's think compliments Plastering?
I was going to do my NVQ Level 3 but now I'm thinking I might be better off
putting that money towards a different course and trying to get another Level 2
in something else, It'd be nice to mix it up a bit.
Plastering will always be my base but maybe adding tilling
or decorating to that would be a good idea,
especially if I do decide to go self employed.
As a Level 2 Plumber what would I be qualified to do?
I believe you have to be Level 3 before you can apply for your Gas Certs
so obviously I wouldn't be able to touch that, Anyone here have any recommendations?
 
Decorating you will not earn half as much as plastering, tiling possibly but I'd say stick to what you know or get a taxi licence and do that part time for a complete change.
 
A fireman who drives a taxi and works as a gigolo should keep life interesting.

I guess that but it'd give me extra work and break the week up a bit
I probably won't be able to wallpaper but I could slap on some paint.

Tiling might be an idea because I could probably use that abroad
I actually wanted to do tiling back in the day but none of the local colleges taught it.

That'd be a cool mix but I think I'd rather be a spy who drives a Bugatti and moonlights as a porn star.
 
Easiest logical step is tiling .. Remember as a plasterer you will be in before the tilers quote so get first oppurtunity to quote.. I've also noticed people are prepared to pay more for tiling than plastering so you can hide a decent plasterin price within the tiling quote if that makes sense
 
the tiling section was a good idea until it became a joke and ruined by a few sad cases, i would add tiling mate, get trained properly and you will get the chance as said to get the plastering and tiling, you will also earn more tiling than plastering, if your good at it...

Ruined by the jealous northerners no doubt who do not like prosperity
 
Tiling. Less hoops to jump through like elec/plumb and you're probably half qualified already. Expect to pay £300-£400 for a decent Rubi or Sigma cutter

It's Herbie's 4th birthday next Saturday. I bought him a Hunter black leather collar today for £23. Was tempted to get their elk skin which was really soft, but nearly £50.

Cool, thanks for the advise guys. I might look into a tiling course and see what's available.

When I got my Plastering NVQ I was employed by a qualified Plasterer,
Can you still apply for the NVQ Level 2 if you're self employed?
I don't want to leave where I am to find work with a Tiller,
I would go to college, leave what's needed and then do a few small jobs
on my own to start out...
 
No, NVQ needs just a site assessment in a real life environment. Do a couple of discount jobs for experience and assessment then start rolling it out
 
You can never get a tiler when you want one. Always seem to be booked up. At least it is not affected by the weather like the outdoor trades.

Flat roofing is profitable but subject to the weather. A bit on the heavy side and definately not a one man job.

If you want to be a decorator then you need to be able to hang paper. My decorator has a small van, is first class, very time efficent and charges £140 a day. It would take me 3 days to do what he can do in a day.

But these are all trades in their own right. To learn these trades it will take more than a course. Courses will teach you the basics.
 
Absolutely I'm not trying to do it full time, was thinking more of painting somebodies bedroom
or tiling their bathroom, small jobs like that. I'd leave tiling a floor or hanging paper to the pros,
the short course would make me more of a handy man.

If your a good plasterer that should keep you busy though no need for anything else
